I'm sure JB enjoyed the preview of next week's catfight between his two favorite ladies on the show... Rowr! And if memory serves correct, I seem to recall the fight being in the rain. It's gonna be a good week.

I gotta say that I, too, wonder if this show can hold my interest for a season 5. Having said that... I, for one (and possibly the only one), am actually enjoying this season. I do admit that I still prefer watching the entire series on dvd over the course of two days.
I'm looking forward to next week's episode... almost as much as the next new episode of The Deadliest Catch. For those that don't know me.... that translates into ====> I'm very much looking forward to it. smile.

Having said that... I, for one (and possibly the only one), am actually enjoying this season. I do admit that I still prefer watching the entire series on dvd over the course of two days. [/color][/quote] You're not the only one enjoying this season. The last few episodes have been very good, and last night's was stellar. Say what you will about Juliet, but her character is completely owning me this season! I loved the verbal smackdown she laid on Sawyer and Sayid about not trying to take the moral high road. [glow=red,2,300]SPOILERS[/glow] I know we have all danced around the issue of whether we could trust her or not. Well, last night I had finally made a decision. The flashbacks did a great job of painting her in a truly sympathetic light. At the end when Jack told her how he saw her face when the sub blew up and knew she wanted to get off the island just like the rest of them, well, that did it. I literally said in my mind, "That seals it. I finally trust her character." Then BAM! The show totally nailed me with an uppercut via those flashbacks showing what the plan had been all along. That being said, I'm still not ready to say, "Yep, she's still working with the Others." I think she's still very much in the gray, and it may turn out that she's playing Ben. I think she wants off the island and is going to play whatever angle she can that will get her to the goal. I also like how vulnerable the character is in the flashbacks and then how her character's current state doesn't take crap from anybody. Excellent acting job from Elizabeth Mitchell. I love that no matter how hard I try, and no matter how many clues we're given, I simply can't figure her character out. Great job of writing. Even down to the detail that we don't know if she was knocking the gas mask off the table or merely sliding it off to pick it up. If the writing and story-telling stays at a similar level as last night's then it's gonna be highly enjoyable riding this out to the end.

It's the smirk. That's what it is. That's what I hate about Benry and his bunch of neo-hippie *bleeping* Others. They've all got it. Benry, Juliet, Ethan, Tom...all of 'em. That "Oh, if only you could be as smart as us" smirk. The "I cannot BELIEVE you idiot plane crash survivors haven't figured everything out yet. I mean, for real...how stupid are you?" smirk.
And that smirk represents everything I've come to hate about this show.
It pains me to say this, of course. I used to be as big a Lost nerd as anyone, greedily dissecting every symbol, poring over every nuance, making anagrams of every name to uncover hidden meanings. I played along all last season while they fiddled around with the stupid button. I sat patiently by as answers were promised but rarely delivered. Weird numbers, four-toed statues, and a suburban hippie commune in the jungle--I just accepted it all. I even put up with a badly CGI'd smoke monster for a short while.
But not any more. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I no longer care about the mythology of DHARMA, or just how interconnected all the survivors are, or even whether they'll get off the island. I have been reduced to one thing and one thing only: wanting Benry's hippies to suffer. Badly. Horribly. Disgustingly.
Yes, last night's episode answered a few things: pregnant women keep dying on the island. Juliet's not really there by choice anymore. Jack's thinking with his you-know-what. They were reading "Carrie" at the book club. "Downtown" reminded Juliet of her sister.
Big deal. Come on, people. While those things were "officially" confirmed, they have been widely hinted at and speculated about for a long time now. We've known that Benry wasn't letting anyone leave the Island for good. (Michael and Walt don't count. They'll be back, and you know it.) And really, who cares what they were reading? And all the song proves is that the Island is in desperate need of a good indie record store. What, they have access to everything in the world EXCEPT iTunes?
What was really proved is that Benry IS a liar, despite his assertions to the contrary. Will he tell a truth here and there? Sure. But make no mistake about it: Benry lies. He's a lying liar. If his pants were on fire in every scene, it'd be less obvious. And he's got that same friggin' smirk. And I want him to die.
Because, the other thing that last night's episode confirmed was that Benry didn't know about the plane crash until it happened, and he certainly didn't "bring down" the plane. Therefore, and no matter what all the fatalists say, the survivors didn't ask to crash there. None of them--Locke being a rare exception-- want to be there. And yet Benry's bastard hippies treat the survivors as Guinea pigs, as experiments for their own purposes. I know some will say that Benry and his people are just misunderstood. They're trying to save the world. They're curing cancer and healing crippled people!
To which I say: Bull *BLEEP*. If anything has been beaten into our skulls over the course of this show, it is that whatever magical effect the Island may have, it only works THERE. So, if Benry's selfish hippie tree huggers really cared about people other than themselves, why aren't there a steady stream of planes landing there? The island should have more discarded wheelchairs than a Benny Hinn crusade.
But, like all hippies, they are hypocrites. They claim altruistic motives and apparently receive clothing drops from the L. L. Bean Spring catalog, but at their hearts they are selfish, birkenstock and fleece wearing hippies who are intolerant of anyone who disagrees with their ideology. And they all have that *BLEEPING* SMIRK.

UGH!!! I knew that woman couldn't be trusted!
Hmmmm... Sounds like Jack's not the only one thinking with his... uh, never mind.
Sure, she may want to get off the island, but a very important plot point was revealed tonight... one that wasn't made very obvious yet... Remember, the survivors killed her man (played brilliantly by Brett Cullen, I might add! I knew he'd be back!), so she has reason to want revenge... it's personal. He was probably the best thing that ever happened to her while she was stuck on that island, and I predict that his death will be revealed as her motivation to take them all down.
Overall, I liked this week's episode a lot. (Granted, I'm seeing Sayid in a new light after witnessing Naveen Andrews's character's obscene obsession in Grindhouse... Somehow, Sayid isn't as creepy as he used to be. ) But the reunion scene was good - that tension within the Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle... The foreshadowing of problems with Sun's pregnancy (oooh - could that also be the reason for Juliet's infiltration? Trying to get her "work done"?)...
I am getting more and more annoyed by Jack and his flippin' preachy attitude, though. He expects everyone to trust him, after he spent "happy-time" in the Others' camp, meanwhile they've ALL been wronged by Juliet's people??? Mr. High-and-Mighty knows all... or not. I sort of can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out the truth.
I'm still very curious about what happened to Locke - and the purpose of his father being on the island.
I can see Laslo's frustration, but honestly - this season is shaping up to be worlds better than **shudders** Season 2...

Remember, the survivors killed her man (played brilliantly by Brett Cullen, I might add! I knew he'd be back!), so she has reason to want revenge... Slight correction, NBJ. Goodwin infiltrated the Tailies' camp, and was killed by Eko, was he not? And, since pretty much every one of the Tailies is dead, exactly who would Juliet get revenge on? I mean, I can see where you're coming from, but I don't see revenge as one of her motivations. She's still dancing to Benry's pulling of the strings.

Ana Lucia, actually.
I see your point, but maybe she feels righteous over all of the survivors and lumps them all together - as "the enemy". I don't know - it was just a thought.
Wow - you really are worked up about this show aren't you?
I did like your "smirk" rant. I wholeheartedly agree that that must be something "The Others" look for when they interview someone for a job. ...And I always chuckle when you use the name "Benry".

Right...Ana Lucia. I knew that, but I got Goodwin mixed up with the Others that Eko killed. It's not that I'm abandoning the show. I'm still there every week, my stomach knotted like a monkey fist whenever Benry (that's just for you, NBJ) and his cronies appear on screen. But yes, Lost has sort of turned my into a seething cauldron of angst these days. And it IS all about the smirk. Someday, the world will know the truth!

I agree that I'm eager to see the majority of the Others die a painful death, especially Benry. Just like I wanted to be cast in Prison Break so that I could be the one to kill off that super annoying Asian dude who was trying to kill Michael and Link. He had the same smirk.
But I still don't classify Juliet in the same category (plus, her smirk's a bit sexier). At the end of the episode she made a comment to Jack about being an individual or she's used to being on her own or something to that effect.
I think that was another clue that her only goal is to get off the island and if she thinks Jack can help her more than the Others then she'll stick by him.
Granted, whatever I say right now will be completely contradicted by tomorrow's episode and I'll be sent right back to the drawing board.
I have faith that Benry will get the gruesome death he so deserves, thus I carry on.

Laslo,
I couldn't have worded my exact feelings about the show any better as you did.
If the Others have such a great problem with the Losties being there.. just .. get..rid.. of them ... drug them all, ship'em off, begone with them *makes a hand-wavey-motion* But they are just toying with them, having their way with them (especially Benry), and I hate it...
I have to admit that I do like what they did with Juliet's char, as JB already mentioned. It was a nice Lost-classic build up where they emotionally take you one way, and the last minute throw it all around they other way, so you're left with your jaw on the floor.. Though, I'm just starting the miss the unexplainable events, like the monster(s), people seeing weird stuff, etc..
The only thing i look forward to is the episode where we'll see DHARMA flashbacks (05/09/2007 - The man behind the curtain) and the last two episodes, where we'll see some Benry flashbacks... That will prolly explain a lot why he's doing these experiments with these people... If the production team keeps to there original idea, we'll probably be going like : "rrrrrrright, so THAT's why he did all that" .. (i hope)
Again, they only thing that will make me take a look at the first eps of season 4, is that if Desmonds girlfriend gets there with the cavalry...

I just read my previous post again. On the Locke's father subject : WHAT THE [CENSORED]
Did they go "anywhere" with that ?! You never see what follows ?! Are we supposed to see that in flashback or something ??
Last thing we see is him in front of his dad, next thing he's back in the 'village' hopping around, like nothing happened... what ??
/rant off

(insert me--- hands over ears---- LA LA LA LA ----- not listening) Okay... so I was up in Mich. for a week and consequently am behind on my LOST watching. Just watched last week's episode w/ Sun/ Juliette theme and oh... the eye-patched "dead" guy who is no longer dead. Although I found aspects of this week's episode intriguing... this is not why I rushed straight here to the computer. I saw the previews/ sneak peak for the show that aired last night. I haven't even watched it yet and I know it's going to be amazing. John, John, John.... what are you doing. Needless to say--- (and I could, of course, be totally wrong... I'm no J.B. after all) --- I suspect that it wasn't Ben under that potato sack/tarp thingie. You know what I mean. Even if I'm wrong.... makes for an interesting show... and any show highlighting Sawyer is Aces in my book. Last comment before going to watch the latest episode ---(gotta love dvr) --- I must say that I am still up in the air about Juliette. I haven't trusted her since she was "left" behind by the Others, but I am wondering if her conscience will win out in the end. From her back story it seems that she is a good person... somewhere in her core??? Maybe, I'm just hoping. In my heart of hearts I believe Snape's good, too. (sorry while back home... reread the H.P. series 1-5... trying to get caught up b-4 the final book comes out.) Back to LOST... it's just that Jack was right and why he hasn't thought of this (or has he? and keeping his enemies closer?)... yes, he could see it on her face when the sub exploded... Juliette wants off the island as badly as anyone. What would she do to get off said island, Jack? That's the question. But who cares about that when there's "Sawyer-watching" to take place. Ciao. off to watch the next installment. (Then I can finally read/get caught up on this thread)

For all you Lost fans out there .. I'm pretty glad with how they are solving a lot of questions in this season, but can someone explain me (or give me their thoughts on) : - the black smoke - the fact that Desmond "sees" things in the future
Those are about the only 2 things that still boggle my mind about Lost O.รต (oh yeah, and where Michael is gone to .. but i'm guessing we'll find out someday)
Some Lost news : they have set the final date of the show to May 2010 !!!! They're gonna do 3 more short seasons with 16 shows .. what the hell .. They gave this end-date, because to much viewers were thinking they were 'winging' the show, and just write it as they go along, never finishing off stories they started...
I wonder if they have enough viewers left to make it another 3 years... kinda like J.B.'s readers (boohyaw, did i just make a pun about J.B. O.O)
