AFI has released their top 100 movie quotes of all time - now I know Johnny thinks their top 100 lists are bogus, but I like them! Anyway, there are some really good quotes on the list, as voted by AFI members. Apparently, "I'm the king of the world!" was on the list they were able to choose from, and it got the least number of votes, as it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down at number 100. Go see the rest for yourself... www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/quotes.aspx#list*modified to clarify that there were actually 400 quotes on the ballot, so the Titanic quote beat 300 others that must have been REALLY bad...

Um... Not to say that some of those shouldn't have been on there (ok, some of those shouldn't have been on there!) but there were two that I felt should definitely have been there.
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!"
and, I'm sure Johnny and Aimee will agree with me on this one, perhaps its not a great movie quote so much as one that they ingrained in my brain before I ever saw the movie (which I just saw for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but isn't that what a great movie quote is? One that you have heard over and over whether or not you've seen the movie?)
"I'm your Huckleberry."

I totally agree with Rhiannon - I mean, I've used BOTH of those quotes in real life. When I was 12, Inigo Montoya's line was my favorite. And my sister (after recently watching Tombstone for the 1st time) uses "I'm your Huckleberry" every chance she gets.
Once again, AFI has proven how lame they can truly be. Sure, some of those quotes should be on there, but some are so generic that I think I'm shopping at K-Mart.
Come on, "Snap out of it!" from Moonstruck? Honestly? And I'm sorry, but "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" from Dirty Dancing should be on the WORST quotes list.

AFI has released their top 100 movie quotes of all time - now I know Johnny thinks their top 100 lists are bogus, but I like them! Count me among those that show scorn and disdain for "best of all time" lists. They are mainly, in my opinion, argument starters. First of all, unless someone has access to a time machine, how can any list be of "all time?" Does this mean that there will never be another quote better than "Frankly my dear, I don't give a d***!" ever? Secondly, the subjective nature of these lists by definition makes them unreliable. What makes a quote a classic is going to differ from person to person. For instance, "Okay, then!" from Raising Arizona is probably my favorite movie quote of all time, not because it has any great significance, historical or otherwise, but because it just cracks me up. Likewise, "We're on a mission from God" from The Blues Brothers makes me smile, even though others may find it stupid. While we're at it, do they really expect us to buy that Dirty Dancing and Titanic have produced more worthy quotes than Braveheart or Schindler's List? I'm sorry, but "Nobody puts baby in a corner" (#98) and "I'm king of the world!" (#100) don't even compare to "Whomever saves one life saves the world entire" or "Freeeeeddoooooommmm!!" (netiher of which made the top 100). Anyway, I'll take a breather now and collect my angry thoughts.

That... was just... stupid. I'm sorry, but who did those ballots go out to? 80 year old ex-movie stars? So many of those movies are from the 30's, 40's 50's... Not to say that those movies can't have significance today, but... so many of those quotes are just random words, that when taken out of context, have no meaning. UNLIKE the missing Inigo quote, or Gone with the Wind and others that did make the list.

I think when MTV does their best videos ever list, Thriller always comes out on top, and the few times I've watche dit they've basically said "Hey, we seriously doubt anybody will ever be able to top this!"
I'm glad everyone's behind me on the Inigo quote. That's the main one that's peeving me.

I'm sooooo agreeing with the Princess Bride and the Tombstone quotes. Seriously, the voters picked a lot of stupid quotes - but I was surprised at a lot of them from the older movies that are now part of our everyday language.
I haven't look at the list of all 400 quotes eligible, but there are a lot of quotes that had better be on there!
Oh, and not only should "I'm your Huckleberry" have been on there, but so should "You're a daisy if you do" and several other quotes from Tombstone (all by Val Kilmer of course). And where was "As you wish!"

Other great quotes from Tombstone:
"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds." "I'm dying, how are you?" "I have two guns, one for each of ya." "Why Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave." "Oh. Johnny, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now."
I could go on! And Kurt Russell gets in, "You gonna do somethin'? Or are you just gonna stand there and bleed?"
I'm also mad that no quotes from The Outlaw Josey Wales were included:
"Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?" "Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy." "How is it with stains?"
And how can you leave off Blazing Saddles's "What in the wide wide world of sports is going on here?"

I kept waiting for Inigo Montoya. But it never came. I guess thats the only thing i disagree with. That and the Network quote was to high.

Someboady's gotta say it, so I will. There was another quote that was sorely missing...
"KAAAAHHHHHNNNNNN!"
oh man, can you feel the angst?

Oooooohhhh...I didn't think of that one, but it's one I use in everyday life all the time! It so totally should have been up there (in the top 10 probably). Of course, I'm engaged to a scifi nerd, so maybe not all of the voters use it all the time, but surely a lot of them do?
(It's especially funny when someone's name is "almost" Kahn, to yell it then...the LA mayoral race was against the stupid incumbent, Hahn, and the winner whose name I will not even attempt to spell...everytime they mentioned it on the news, Mr. Cali would pop out of whatever room he was in and yell "Haaaaahhhhhhnnnnn!!!!")

Hey, if we're talking about qoutes that I actually use in real life, then I have to give a nod to William H. Macy's line from Mystery Men:
"We've got a blind date with destiny...and it looks like she's ordered the lobster!"
I crack up just thinking about it...

I don't expect the quote(s) I tend to use the most to be on the list, but they really should - especially my most used one - it fits many situations:
"And anyway, why would Elliot go to the forest?"
(Drew Barrymore - ET)

This list is stupid! I think MsAng said it. Most of these 'quotes' are just words without any meaning, I mean, what's so great about "Yo Adrian" as a quote? And also, why is there nearly no Clint Eastwood quotes in there (about 2)? Allmost everything he says in movies can be considered a memorable quote, with my favorite "Well, opinions are like a**holes; everybody has one!" Really missed that one...
