I just wanted to take advantage of the new TV section, that I just noticed JB put up, to say once again how awesome this show is. Everyone jump on the band wagon now!

I absolutely adore this show. I was sooooooo bummed that I missed so much of the last season because I usually worked Wed. nights... which meant that I didn't have to choose between Veronica Mars & Lost (I love both).
I bought the first season on dvd. Watched it over the course of two days. This show is absoulutely amazing.
I give it the highest marks possible.

Well, I know I said that I REFUSED to watch Veronica Mars until Ms. Cali watched Freaks and Geeks, but season 1 of VM is on sale for $19.99 this week at Best Buy. Considering the list price is $49.99, I decided to take advantage of the discount.
I've watched the first three episodes, and I will say that it's entertaining. However, claiming that it's the best show ever since 1992 was way too much hype.
I'm interested in seeing how the mystery plays out, but after three episodes I don't find it nearly as engaging as Lost or Prison Break. It doesn't maintain the "must tune in to next week" tension as the two shows I just mentioned.
I'll keep a running commentary of my opinions because hey, maybe my interest will grow as the mystery deepens.
Again, I'm enjoying it, but the best written show since '92? Come now, Ms. Cali.

As an ardent admirer of both these shows, JB - keep watching until the end as it gets really awesome. Ms Cali, what are you waiting for?
As far as which is best...they are very different shows...I think F & G would come out trumps for the great writing and for that scene where Sam dances in front of the mirror in the jumpsuit.

Eh, see, JB, I hate Lost (don't have enough interest in Prison Break to even try watching it). I liked Lost at first, but they lost me (pun intended) when they never resolved anything. I just had no interest from week to week about what was going on. VM, on the other hand, kept my attention, because it furthered the mystery each week, and I knew they would solve it by the end of the season. That's my kind of show - I really need for things to be resolved.

Just a quick note... as I never tire of complimenting Veronica Mars. Lost and Veronica Mars are the only two shows currently on tv that I actually make an attempt to see. I did not get a chance to see much of either show last season though. I bought the second season of both shows... still watching Lost.
Upon seeing all the shows back to back, I found that I liked the second season of Veronica Mars more than I originally thought. There was one episode I didn't like and some as I previously mentioned were flirting with bordering on soap opera-esque. **(chuckle, chuckle. Sorry--- I apologize for that last "nails on a chalkboard" sentence. I just got home from school and thought of my English professor. Just imagining his reaction is enough to give me a little joy.) In anycase... I still give it a thumbs up overall. Just when I thought I couldn't like a character more, he utters the line : "Don't worry gang, if she's a 2 at 10(pm), then she'll be a 10 at 2(am)" . Normally a lame line, but somehow his delivery made me smile. God bless Logan.
Enjoy JB --- We look forward to your updates.

Ah, I love Logan!
Though I did waver between loving and hating him last season. I think season 2 of VM is much better if you can watch it all at once (or at least a lot faster than over the entire season). Watching it one week at a time, it felt like they really struggled to get going, but the payoff was worth it in the end.

How can y'all love Logan? I hate the guy and loudly cheered when the Mexican biker punched his face in.
The difference between you and I, Ms. Cali, is that I have the patience to see Lost's storyline all the way through. I like that it stretches out for more than one season, and I like the science fiction aspects behind it.
I also like that Lost and Prison Break cater more towards adults - that keeps them more intense than VM seems to be at the moment. VM is definitely geared more towards the teenage crowd.
And sadly, VM doesn't have any cool male characters like Sawyer and Jack. And Veronica is cute, but she's no Kate!
I've now watched the first four episodes, and I did like ep. 4 more than ep. 3.
Ep. 3 was starting to skate dangerously close to soap opera territory with...
[glow=red,2,300]BEGIN SPOILER ALERT[/glow]
...the revelation that Melissa Leo was dude's "father."
[glow=red,2,300]END SPOILER ALERT[/glow]
It did catch me off-guard, and I'll let it slide this time, but I don't want too much of that kind of stuff.
Don't worry; I paid $20 for the DVD set so I will definitely watch it all the way through, hoping that everybody is correct in stating that it starts to get awesome.
I'm curious to see if I'll be interested in the second season though, since they wrap up the mystery by season's end. Will I care about the characters enough to watch them take on another mystery?
I like Veronica, and her dad is funny, but right now that's about it. Oh, and the Mexican biker dude is funny.
But like I said, Logan needs to be beaten senseless on a daily basis. Talk about people with annoying voices.

Hmmmm...there's one more soap-opera-esque plotline the first season - but it's sooooooooooooooo cheesy and soapy that it's really great to have there. You'll know what it is when you get to it. The second season mystery isn't as compelling as the first season's, but it does build on some things from the first season. One of the things I like best is how the characters grow and change as the season goes on. I know you hate Logan now, as I did at that point in the series, but keep watching...he's a very interesting character! Weevil is a great character too - I never could quite get him figured out. Donut on the otherhand...meh. (Oh, Donut is what Lily called Duncan in one of the flashbacks...the recapper for the show at televisionwithoutpity.com stuck with that name for him, and I think it fits, since he has about as much personality as a plain glazed donut...my least favorite kind).

I love Lost too (haven't seen PB due to working on the night it airs but might by s1) but I understand the frustration of the mystery never being solved. I used to watch Twin Peaks and it was kind of like that but at least you finally got to find out who killed Laura Palmer (even if there was a possession involved).
Logan does improve a lot but there will always be people that hate him. I love Weevil too. Duncan is only the dud male character. Of course, in season 2, Dick and Beaver are awesome. I also like the peripheral character like Celeste, Lamb and Vinnie Van Lowe and others. Great cast really. Love the Dad.

I actually enjoyed the simplicity of Dick in the second season. (Yes that sentence doesn't quite sound right.) Anyway... Logan is the wanna be bad boy who is really good. Kinda like Sawyer. Only Sawyer wins hands down in the war of witty sayings. He also looks much better with his shirt off. Ahhhh Sawyer.
Just finished watching the complete second season of LOST... it got really good towards the end. I yawned through a couple episodes though. I was excited to see the "next" episode and then was bummed that there wasn't one. The two-part season ender is presented as one long show on the dvd, I guess. I can't wait for Season 3.
Best thing... I think Veronica Mars is on Tuesdays now so there won't be a conflict between that and LOST as those are the two shows that I care to watch every episode. YAY!!!

Current update! We have now made it through the first 9 episodes. I wasn't crazy about the "harmless cult" one. Chloe's (oops, I mean Veronica's) sarcastic comments are the only thing that saved it.
I kept wanting to shave dude's eyebrows, and I kept thinking, "All right, can we please move along and get to the Lily Kane murder mystery?!?!"
I have a couple of questions for all you fans, so let's see if you can fake any legitimate answers...
[glow=red,2,300]MINOR SPOILER ALERT[/glow]
1) How in the world did Logan and Mexican boy get the flag pole to go through the middle of Captain Fuller's (21 Jumpstreet reference) car?
They would have had to drill a hole in the top and bottom of the car and then hoist it ABOVE the flag pole and then lower. Either that or they would have had to remove the flag pole, stuck the car in its place, and then hoisted the flag pole above the car and slid it through the hole.
I say that this prank was completely impossible. Feel free to offer a theory to the contrary.
2) How can Veronica afford paternity DNA testing? We're talking at least $500, and then she just shreds the results without looking at them?
I better find out who her real father is or I'm not gonna be happy! Oh, and don't spoil it and tell me whether we do find out or not.
[glow=red,2,300]END MINOR SPOILER[/glow]

Sorry, JB, part of what I love about this show is how unbelievable some of the things are - so the flagpole prank didn't even give me a second thought. As far as the paternity testing (and that is the second soap opera plotline I was talking about by the way), Veronica has a savings account - she saves all the money she's made working for her dad toward her college fund. I just figured she either used that, or called in a favor. And I won't tell you anything more!

Hmm... maybe I should re-watch season One. I really liked the second season much better watching it back to back. Only one episode that I didn't like at all. Can't even remember it now. The flagpole thing... I'll have to see if I can come up w/ even a somewhat plausible answer for you. Somehow I doubt there is one. As for Veronica's real father..... [glow=red,2,300]Spoiler Alert[/glow]..... My memory isn't what it used to be since I hit my 30's, but wasn't it.... Chef? No love story for her & Cartman in season 3. Too bad, they'd make a cute couple. Oh wait... hmmm.

The cult episode sucked. There are a few episodes which suck. I call them 'filler' but Vmars is less guilty of it than Smallville.
The thing I didn't like about season 2 was Jackie. What a crappy addition to the cast.
