I saw the trailer for the first time last night - it looks like what you'd imagine it to be after the first two movies. Some evil bad guy played by Truman Capote (Philip Seymore Hoffman) kidnaps Ethan Hunt's latest girlfriend and Ethan has to save her. Explosions, fighting, and oh, did we mention the explosions, follow. And I'm pretty sure typical Tom Cruise posing will be in there somewhere (if you saw MI2, you know what I mean...the formula went something like this - hit the bad guy, spin around to face the camera, and...pose!).
I will see it, because JJ Abrams is co-wrote and is directing it. And also, I will admit, I really liked the first one (when it was a little bit more of an ensemble cast, and you had to think to follow the plot), and I liked the second one well enough (despite having too much Tom Cruise, it was entertaining, and Dougray Scott was a great bad guy).

I don't remember much about the first one other than it didn't blow me away. I thought it was OK.
The second one, however, literally put me to sleep. Way too much slow motion. Haha, plus the posing that Ms. Cali referenced was just too much for me.
I don't know, for a supposed action movie Mission Impossible just doesn't keep the action moving fast enough.
I'll go see the third one for free, but I'm not pumped up about it.

I'm afraid that it will be just another action flick. Mission:Impossible (the name allready says all) has always been about some ultra secret, highly impossible mission that only Hunt can do. Now he has to save his ex girlfriend? How are they gonna make a self distruction mission briefing about that?

Um, like this (a short, middle aged man pops out of a trash can as Hunt walks past and hands him a note):
Gadget Hunt, Dr. Claw Truman Capote has kidnapped your girl of the week girlfriend who happens to be a top scientist/state official/someone else important. Your mission is to find her and ensure no state secrets are revealed. This message will self-destruct.
Hunt: Thanks Chief (throws self-destructing message into garbage can with Chief)

I saw it last nght. Quite exciting! Thank heavens JJ Abrams directed it otherwise...*gag reflex*. Tom Cruise isn't my favorite person, but acting wise, he has his moments. Anyway, "cruise miss(iles)" aside, MI:3 didn't suck like I thought it would. Mr G agrees with me that it's better than MI:2 but not *quite* as good as the first one. [Johnny, feel free to add Cruise Missile to the dictionary.] And the bad guy's really well done except for his character's name. Just didn't sound threatening enough to me. BUT he wastes no time making you want someone, Hunt or otherwise, to freeze his assets and PDQ. *shrug* I liked it inspite of myself.

Heh...I told Mr. C it would have been a little better if the bad guy talked like Truman Capote! LOL. There were a couple times that I felt like I was watching Tom Cruise be his smarmy self during the movie, but most of it I felt like I could have been watching any actor play Ethan Hunt. Thankfully, the movie is about the action, not the acting.

[Johnny, feel free to add Cruise Missile to the dictionary.] Would a "Cruise Miss(ile)" accurately be defined as "a post-Oprah-couch-jumping Tom Cruise box office bomb"?

Yes, but who exactly, is it targeting?

Yes, but who exactly, is it targeting? I'd it's targeting mainstream audiences but due to stubby legs' off-screen antics, it misses the target.
