I attended a press screening for this one, and I have to say I was quite entertained. This is basically a dark, disturbing fairy tale brought to life on the big screen - for adults.
One thing I really liked is that the content isn't watered down just to make it palatable for 5-year-olds. That's right, this is NOT for the youngsters. There are severed heads, half-eaten bodies, deaths, freaky stuff happening to small children, and bad things happening to animals. I liked the clever nods to characters in the original Grimm fairy tales.
I won't be able to post a full review until right before the release, but I'll try to answer questions without revealing any spoilers.

This looks awesome (and I don't say that just because Heath Ledger is in it, but that does help). It's definitely on my must see list for this year!

I thought it was quite original and visually impressive to boot. There are a couple of scenes with animals that Ms. Ang wouldn't like though. There was one such scene that made me let out an audible, "Oh man!" I laughed, but I should probably feel guilty about it. But nah, it's Friday, so I'll allow the darker side of my sense of humor to prevail.

I've seen the trailer some time ago on one of my trailer watching missions I have like once a week, and I have to say that it's appealing. Also because my mother used to read me the Grimm fairytales when I was young. Now I don't expect this to be like that, on the contrary, but I like the connection... I'll be awaiting it anxiously.

So is the PG 13 rating accurate? Just curious. It looks like a fun movie to watch.

So is the PG 13 rating accurate? Just curious. It looks like a fun movie to watch. Yes, it's accurate. It's not pushing the edge of the PG-13 rating or anything (there's very little profanity), but there's no way it would've made a PG rating. A mature 10-year-old could probably handle it, but this isn't a fairy tale for 6 year olds.
