So, I've been seeing previews and posters for some movies that I just can't understand why they needed to be made. So far, the ones on my list are:
* The Dukes of Hazzard (yes, I know Jessica Simpson plays Daisy Duke, and somehow she is considered "hot", but that itself is not reason enough to make this movie). Maybe it's because Johnny Nox-vile is in it, and I just can't stand him, but I have NO desire to see this movie. It looks like a stupid and unnecessary remake of a tv show I never really liked to begin with (now, if they made a CHIPs remake, that would be a different story. No, wait, that would be unnecessary too). Sometimes, it's just better to leave things alone. Not every tv show or movie from our childhoods need to be remade.
* Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - I know this one more closely follows the book than the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", and I know I will have to see it, and I might even end up liking it, but I don't understand why it had to be made in the first place. I REALLY don't understand why they let Tim Burton ruin direct it.
* Duce Bigalo - European Gigalo. This movie is even more unnecessary than "Son of the Mask". The first movie was even more unnecessary than "Son of the Mask." Rob Schneider is about as funny as Horatio Sanz (ie: NOT FUNNY AT ALL), and they really need to stop letting him star in movies.
* The Bad News Bears - I can't tell you why this movie repulses me so much. I like underdog stories. I like Billy Bob Thornton. I like baseball movies. But for some reason, I can't bring myself to think making this movie was a good idea.
Movies that I SHOULD think are unnecessary, but I will confess I don't.
* Stealth - seriously, this looks like a typical summer film. Dumb plot, lots of action. The plot looks a little TOO dumb to really make this movie worth seeing, yet, I want to see it. Plus, I've heard some of the special effects are incredible.

Summer = remakes. That's a given.
My only complaint about the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard flick is that Burt Reynolds didn't insist on Hal Needham directing. After all, Hal and Burt go way back. Besides, who better than to direct a southern-fried redneck comedy?
I, for one, am looking forward to The Bad News Bears and hoping that Billy Bob's performance is reminiscent of his Bad Santa role--although not totally reminiscent seeing as how there's kids around...

Remakes don't bother me. It will either be good and I'll enjoy it or it will suck and I won't. I'm not sure what makes any film "necessary".
I'm really looking forward to the Dukes of Hazzard. It has that 2 Fast 2 Furious feel to it.
I enjoyed the first Deuce Bigalow film - it was suprisingly funny. The sequel does not look good though.
I don't remember much about the Bad New Bears.
Stealth looks entertaining.

You're right about them all. So sad that Hollywood have ran out of ideal for movies. Hey Johnny now is the time to get your movie ideal out there! ;D

I forgot to add King Kong to my list. It might be good, but I don't think it's necessary. I think the reason all the remakes are bothering me so much right now is that there doesn't really seem to be anything overly original coming out right now. Are we really that uncreative as a society that we have to redo what the generations before us did? I'm all for remakes on a limited basis, but throw in some original storylines as well. I think the last truely original movie I saw was (thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking)...Garden State. Or maybe Sideways (I can't remember which one I saw when). Oh, maybe it was I Heart Huckabees. Before those, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Anyway, the point is, we get maybe three truely original movies per year (MAYBE three), a few new storylines following the same old formulas (I can handle those...they are some of my favorite movies when they are done well), and then a ton of remakes or rehashing of old stories.
At least I will save some money going to the movies!

I really don't get remakes. It's been made allready. Have they run out of ideas so badly they just start remaking stuff? What it usually does for me is that it ruins the memory I got from it in the first place. That's why I'm not looking forward to the Dukes of Hazzard. They can only ruin it. Then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has allready been made and has been a hugh succes. So much you guys allready spend 2 pages on it . So why make it again and screw up the idea of the first one? So I can relate to allmost all these movies you mentioned. Especially this Gigolo movie. It's gonna set in Amsterdam (My capital) and I'm curious of how much cliche's we're gonna get. All our women are probably gonna be called Inga, we only smoke pot and screw hookers and we'll have windmills all over the place... I think that movie's gonna suck, and I'm not gonna be looking forward to it. They can only ruin what good the first movie did to start with (not much). The Bad News bears... well. Isn't that gonna be just another Major League, Little League, A League of their own, or any other sport-underdog movie in wich the bad ones train their ass of to eventually win the worldcup? I only hope Billy Bob Thornton will do the same he did in Bad Santa... Why oh why make remakes, think of something new, so Johnny, like feefeemom said, maybe this is the time for your Queen Bee: Breakin' Out in Hives and Fireants: It's Picnic Time?

Thanks for the inspiration! In addition to my "cleverly cheesy" movies, I do have a more legitimate idea in the works revolving around the world of advanced movie screenings. And believe me, it's definitely its own little world. This will definitely be a comedy.
I'm like Mr. Shade - if a remake entertains me then I'm cool with it. But like most of y'all, I *am* disappointed with the lack of originality.
We just don't get a lot of Mementos or ESOTSMs on a yearly basis.
But I appreciate movies like Batman Begins that may not be original in concept, but they are original in delivery, and that works for me.
I think I'm going to go ahead and start toying with some scripts. Anybody interested in being beta readers for me? I trust y'all to be honest in your opinions.

Out here in the real world, I proofread manuscripts for publishing houses from time to time. Gives me a chance to stretch the 'ol english degree now and then.

You already count me as a beta right? I better be a beta! I have a lot riding on you being a huge success!
As much as I blow sunshine up your ass, you know I'll tell you when you suck.

Seriously, I'd better be a beta! I'm sure, as someone who gets to go to advanced screenings of movies, I'll have some insight and notice things other people might miss. Or, if that doesn't work... I WANT TO BETA JOHNNY'S SCRIPT! HE'S THE BEST WRITER EVER! HAVE YOU READ HIS RIDER REVIEWS (if not, what's wrong with you?)? JOHNNY ROCKS!

Ha! If I had been taking a drink, I would have spit it all over the monitor at that last line JB.

Whoa, somebody quickly turned into Ms. Diva! Somebody is sending me some screenwriting software in the next few days, so when I get that I think I'll start the rough draft phase.
