I thought the trailer looked really good. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I think Vin knows exactly what he's doing with his career. After this movie, all the Tweens who weren't allowed to see XXX or Chronicles of Riddick will see this movie with their family and be panting to rent all his other movies, and the parents might just let them. He'll have a whole new generation of fans.

I admit I laughed at some of the stuff in the trailer, like refering to the kids as Red 1, Red 2, Red 3, and Red Baby, as well as the bedtime story Vin was telling the girl. I guess it's mandatory for all macho men to, at some point in their careers, do a movie where they must take care of kids. I wish Vin the best of luck.

I heard he is gay and has had a relationship with his personal trainer for years. That has nothing to do with any movie or his ability and I don't even know if that is true. Do you think that sexuality really affects the career of an actor or actress. Hollywood must think it does because in the past they have protected the private lives of many of their money makers. Are they right in their attitude that it will affect box office business as people will be jaded, or do you think it is a ridiculous attitude in this day and age and it won't matter to te audience. My bet is on the latter.

I think it still matters. After all, in Hollywood, image is everything (as evidenced by all the fake blondes with large breasts and a size 0 waist that can only be the result of anorexia that you finally get used to seeing around here). You couldn't market Jude Law (for example, since he IS the sexiest man alive) as a sex-symbol and cast him as a leading man in romantic comedies and expect women to fall all over him if he is openly in a gay relationship (again, I am NOT saying Jude Law is gay...I picked him because he is the sexiest man alive). The industry is as much about marketing and image as it is about talent (or people like Guy Pearce would be much more famous and rich while people like, um, The Rock, would not).
And of course, judging by the recent election we just had, many people in this country aren't ready to accept certain things just yet.

I've got a rather lame claim to fame there. I went to school with Guy pearce's cousin Sam. He really looks like him too. As For Jude mm ok but Johnny Depp is just pure sex on legs. Are you saying Guy Pearde is gay and that's why he is not considered as romantic lead? To me that would never stop my enjoyment of a movie and wouldn't keep me away from the cinema. Even if Johnny came OUT! Maybe it wouldn't make a difference to everyone else but the movie execs don't want to take that risk?

I think being openly gay would really hurt action stars. The biggest impact is going to be on the male audience -most guys just aren't going to accept a gay guy as a tough macho man. Women will still fall all over Jude Law whether he's gay or not. Just look at Ricky Martin

The industry is as much about marketing and image as it is about talent (or people like Guy Pearce would be much more famous and rich while people like, um, The Rock, would not). Aw now, come on Ms. Cali. The Rock is very good at what he does. Is he a better actor than Guy Pearce? No. But he's got personality and charisma to spare. Have you seen either The Rundown or Walking Tall? They're just fun, entertaining, adrenaline-fueled movies. I very much prefer Guy Pearce in Memento or Count of Monte Cristo, but he really isn't right for something like The Rundown. Personally, I'm still mystified by Tom Cruise's success.

No, but I've seen The Mummy 2, and The Scorpion King, and his appearance on SNL, and I'm less than impressed.
I would have to agree about Tom Cruise though. Add Keanu Reeves to that list as well.
But really, it's all about the marketing. Admittedly, Guy Pearce hasn't helped himself in that aspect, preferring to stay out of the hollywood scene, and choosing to do movies that aren't really blockbusters (although, I have a feeling they were hoping Count of Monte Cristo and The Time Machine - both of which I liked - would be), and thus he has critical respect but not the "fame" of lesser actors.
And to Lisa - I was not saying he was gay, I was saying he was talented:) hee...He could definitely be the romantic lead (I'd be happy to star in that movie!), he just hasn't been marketed well enough to get there yet. I'm jealous you went to school with his cousin too:) Lucky you!

He didn't have much of a role in The Mummy 2 (plus the CGI looked ridiculous for that scene). The Scorpion King was horrible - not a good indication of what he's capable of. I almost didn't go see The Rundown becouse of it. I thought his SNL appearance was pretty funny.
The Rundown and Walking Tall were MUCH better than the Scorpion King.

Pretty much how nobody would question who'd win a spelling contest between you and me.

whether he's gay or not. Just look at Ricky Martin Speaking of Ricky Martin, my company renewed his passport last year. I held his open passport in my hands. I'm guessing from his photo that the clean cut look is only a look for shows. It was really him but he looked very 'homeless guy', beard, long hair and all that. Shame really...
