THE MACHINIST is the story of TREVOR REZNIK (Christian Bale), a lathe-operator who is dying of insomnia. In a machine shop, occupational hazards are bad enough under normal circumstances; yet for Trevor the risks are compounded by fatigue. Trevor has lost the ability to sleep. This is no ordinary insomnia...
The more I find out about this movie, the more I'm looking forward to it. It's by director Brad Anderson; he also directed Session 9, a very good, yet underrated, psychological thriller set in an abandoned asylum.
Christian Bale (who runs a close second to Johnny Betts in Ms. Cali's "Guys I Want to See Shirtless" poll) lost around 55-60 pounds for this role. It's getting great reviews so far, and I've even seen it compared to Memento.
It opens on October 22, but only in limited release.

Wait, he lost how much weight? Now he's going to be all skinny and emaciated like Guy Pearce...Put your shirt back on Christian!!!!
Why? Why must they do this to me?!
I'll still see the movie though:) It IS Christian Bale after all...
Limited release huh? That generally means LA...gotta look for that:)

I've seen some pictures of him and he does indeed look deathly skinny. Pretty much some skin draped over the bones.

I didn't get to see the movie this weekend, unfortunately...just too much going on! Johnny, I'm sure you'll get to see it before I get a chance, so I look forward to the review!

Can somebody help me get this knife out of my back? It's starting to hurt! Ah well. I may have to wait for The Machinist to come out on video because I don't know if it'll have a theatrical run in Memphis. However, I have a feeling it'll show up for a week or two at Studio on the Square.
