Since you practically begged for a reply... I can largely agree with the list you put up. I thought Without a Paddle was ok, but Butterfly Esotism and Saw would have been above it on my list. The Passion of the Christ is the only movie on your list that I haven't seen (apart from Ladder49 and The Notebook, since they haven't been released here yet), so I can't really judge if it deserves first place. I'll probably won't put it there if I go see the movie now, since I'm a bit biassed and am really not eager to go see the movie (I can't pinpoint why not). I would have put Shrek2 and Kill Bill2 on my list as well. I found them both very entertaining... I actually found Harry Potter entertaining too.. but I'm too ashamed to mention that in any list A. EDIT : O yeah... I just remembered the best movie opening I've seen this year : Anchorman ... the movie itself was pretty bad (apart from the "I DON'T KNOW WHY WE ARE TALKING THIS LOUD" scene) .. but the opening was great : "The following events are based on a true story. However, the names, places, and events have all been changed" !

I loved Anchorman! It was one of my favorite movies I saw this year. I also liked The Notebook, Phantom of the Opera, Ladder 49, and The Passion.

Ms. Cali's thoroughly researched, well thought out list of the best and worst of 2004:
(and by thoroughly researched, well though out, I mean it's lunch time and I have nothing else to do, so I will list the first ten movies that come to my mind...)
10. Spiderman 2 - I still like the first one best though.
9. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban (no time to check the spelling on that one) - the best of the series so far. New director + new feel = better movie.
8. Hero - This is the type of movie you really have to watch in the theater (or on a big screen tv) in the original Chinese with subtitles. Trust me. I tried to watch it in english on the small tv screen on the back of the seat in front of me on my flight home for Christmas...the movie doesn't quite work as well that way.
7. Flight of the Phoenix - it kept my attention, and the twist with Giovinni Ribisi's character was not what I expected.
6. Starsky and Hutch - what can I say that Johnny hasn't already said?
5. In Good Company - TWO Dennis Quaid movies on the list? But both worthy.
4. The Village - my favorite of the Night movies. Yes, even better than Sixth Sense, which I figured out WAAAAAAY before I figured out the twist in The Village (seriously, I figured it out at the beginning of the movie when Bruce's character was shot).
3. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - Despite the wooden acting of Gwenyth Paltrow.
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (or, as Johnny would say, ESOTSM) - Brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, I like Jim Carey so much better in the dramatic roles.
1. Down with Love - it's not on anyone else's lists that I've seen (actually, it got terrible reviews), but I love it.
Movies that would probably be on my list if I had actually gotten to see them (but who knows what they would replace? Not I.)
The Forgotten Phantom of the Opera The Aviator
Movies that made other people's list which have no chance of making my list:
The Incredibles The Polar Express
Worst movies of 2004 (disclaimer: I didn't see most of these movies because I just KNEW they were bad enough to be on this list):
10. Son of the Mask - this wins the prize for the Lease Necessary Movie of 2004. I can't believe some studio exec greenlighted this project.
9. Fat Albert - seriously, WHO is making the decisions to do these movies?
8. Meet the Fockers - I couldn't even get through Meet the Parents, so there's no way I'm sitting through this.
7. Dark Water (this one hasn't actually been released yet - but I saw it as part of a preview audience). By the maker of The Ring, starring Jennifer Connoly...should be great, right? Wrong. Look for my review closer to the release date.
6. White Chicks - didn't see it, didn't want to.
5. Twisted - Horrible, Horrible excuse for Ashley Judd to cry.
4. Mystic River (or was that 2003? Doesn't matter, I first saw it this year, and that's what I'm counting). This was the most overrated movie of the 2004 Oscars. The only person who deserved any kind of acting recognition was the one who got nothing - Kevin Bacon.
3. The Stepford Wives - Johnny's review told me all I needed to know about this one! I stayed far, far away.
2. Catwoman - like they needed to give me another reason to despise Halle Barry's acting?
1. Garfield - this one beats Catwoman because it was released on my birthday, and it is just a crime to release a movie like this one (or Chronicles of Riddick) on my birthday.

Hey Laronda, I think you're thinking of Paparazzi. I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. Collateral is the one with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.
