What did you US folks think of this series. Personally I loved it. I've actually never seen it. Is it at all comparable to Office Space? Hey Lisa, have you ever seen Fawlty Towers? It's my favorite British comedy, and I was just curious what your thoughts were.

Yes I love Fawlty towers and have the box set dvd containing all 12 episodes. My favourites being Basil the rat The one where a guest dies in his sleep. All the characters are classic and I never tire of watching them. The one with the Waldorf Salad also desreves a special mention. I have never seen Office Space so I can't compare it to The Office. The Office is a mockumentary in the everyday life of a dull, monotonous paper merchants. Similar to Fawlty Towers in the way that the main character is thoroughly unlikable, but hilarious. David Brent, the office manager is a smarmy, self centred, politically incorrect moron that thinks he has dazzling wit as is popular, which he isn't. The character is brilliantly played by Ricky Gervais. The supporting characters are equally as funny. This is also the case in" I Am Alan Partridge" played by comedian Steve Coogan. He plays an unpopular ex TV presenter. Infamous for his poor ratingsand terrible chat show, who is now reduced to working a sa DJ on the graveyard shift at the local radio station and living in a motel after being sacked by the BBC. Again a really pompous, stuck up socially inept character, but recipe for a great comedy. Check them out on IMDB. They are all on there. Is Office Space worth a look?

Office Space is great. They are somewhat similar - they both lampoon the office environment. The difference is that The Office is distinctly British comedy and Office Space is distinctly American comedy.
I think Office Space was a lot funnier to me because I'm a programmer (the story revolves around 3 programmers who work for a bank doing Y2K fixes). Word of warning - there is quite a bit of cursing in Office Space.
