First off, I don't care what you say, it take major balls to go on National live TV and lip-sync. And then to say it was pre-recorded back-up vocals? Dad Tivoed the episode, and I have to say that it didn't look suspiscious to me at all. seriously. He didn't tell me about the news, and he just played her first clip, and then her second. I think I'm more aggrevated that even the band members were faking it!
Oh - and sad news for everybody - Commando Nanny got cancelled before the first episode had a chance to air. I know that destroys the fall line-up for half of JB's fans...

I found this through MSN regarding Ms. Simpson:
"Her record company, Geffen Records, said there was a computer glitch. Instead of some pretaped electronic percussion, the recording of "Pieces of Me" started mistakenly performing, the record company said in a statement.
But it sounded suspiciously like a guide vocal that's a common — although almost always unspoken — concert aid. Either the singer "lip synchs" by mouthing words to a backing tape or has a live microphone and sings along to the tape, making the voice sound more powerful than it is.
Such vocal tricks have been used before on the show, making "Saturday Night Live" not entirely live, said a show insider who spoke on condition of anonymity."
So... who knows? I'm more upset that I meed seeing Jude Law!!!!!

The whole thing is pretty funny, although I feel a little sorry for her. Either way, it wouldn't surprise me if she does lip-synch. Brittany Spears does it. Madonna does it. I've seen Shania Twain do it. So be it. Did anybody think they were great singers in the first place?
I've seen people comparing this to Milli Vanilli, but that's not exactly correct. At least Simpson is actually singing on her record. Now I don't doubt that a little technical magic makes her sound better on record, but who cares? I'm not gonna buy her record regardless, so if it makes her fans happy then yippee for them.
I know the Brittany Spears and Ashlee Simpsons of the world aren't the most talented musicians out there. If the music business was all about talent, then Todd Snider and Roger Clyne would be household names. Unfortunately, it's the little pop-stresses that captivate the hearts of the teenage girls. It's a shame, but that's the way it goes. I'm not gonna fault Simpson for making money off a public that's willing to buy the product.
Top 40 music is a joke, whether it's being lip-synched or not. I've accepted it and moved on.

Unlike her older sister Jessica, I actually like Ashlee Simpson. Mr. Cali and I were talking about how you could hear the vocals behind her at the beginning of her first song - it sounded like she was singing along with it at the beginning. But I don't care, because at least they had a musical guest that I like. That so rarely happens:)
And Jude Law was so funny! I think they had the best opening monologue EVER in the history of the show (yes, even better than Christopher Walken singing Walken in a Winter Wonderland, or You say Po-tay-toh, I say Po-tay-toh). He just talked about how good looking he is, and then all the girls in the cast came out and sang about it, and it ended with him waving his hands in the air gloriously, while they formed a circle around him and sang "Hey Jude". Hee hee. It was well written, well performed, and didn't tend to sink into the dumb and boring like most monologues do.
