Allready sat through the "whole" movie a couple of times (at home though)
*struts*
Haven't read the book, though. Friends tell me it's a lot more gore (especially the devil scenes)

The mid 90's mini-series ? I saw it on t.v. --- I think I liked it. The book is AMAZING!!! I know it was better than the tv version of IT. (Though that is worth seeing for Tim Curry's performance which was eerily amazing in my opinion.) But what do i know? Are you talking about Stephen King's The Stand? Or is there another one out there?

smile.... I believe that when it was first released... (at least this is how I watched it, long ago and hence my memories of it are a bit fuzzy)... it was on t.v. as a mini-series (probably 6-parts if it's 6 hours long). smile.
6 Hours is quite a feat... but I'm sure that I'd prefer that to dealing w/ commercials and having to wait (days?/ weeks?) for the next installment.
In fact... this is why I never really got into the tv series 24. It's good. Or at least what I've seen of it. I just wait for the dvds to be released and just sit there and watch them all --- marathon style. smile. (Usually takes more than one day but still better than having to wait each week.)
smile.

Mr. C and I watched the first season of 24 on DVD in 2 days. Even without the commercials, I still got bored with the whole thing about halfway through. He loves the show, but I still find myself bored about halfway through the season.
I quit watching all together this past season.
Okay, so what is The Stand about? I can't keep track of which Steven King story is which - I don' think I've seen that one.
I liked Storm of the Century (the really bad made for tv version with the guy from Wings) and the Rob Lowe made for tv one about the Vampires (which one is that one again?).

Huh... how about that. Rob Lowe was in a version of Salem's Lot... just not the one I saw.
smile. MsCali makes me feel old w/out even trying. lol/smile.
Okay... Rob Lowe was in The Stand, but you through me off w/ mention of Vampires which was def. Salem's Lot so I looked it up on Imdb.com and sure enough... there were two tv movies of it: The one that I saw (though only vaguely remember as I was 6 at the time) came out in 1979 and the one starring Rob Lowe came out in 2004. It was probably better than the one I saw.
Okay... onto The Stand... The premise is that a biologically engineered "Super Flu"; developed by the govt. as a biological weapon... ends up getting released into the population and in a few short weeks has decimated the country and beyond. Let me stress that this is the mother of all flu strains, that ends in fatality for all but a very small percentage of people (maybe 1% or less of the population).
That's the backdrop... then the story follows some survivors (nearly all strangers) who are drawn together by dreams of either an old woman or a bad dude -- the Ultimate bad dude if you are an avid King reader. After that.. it's choosing sides and a fight between good and evil.
I haven't seen the made for tv movie since it was aired so ... Trantee could tell you if my description is way off base or not.
I should reread this book! It's awesome. One of the things I like best about Stephen King is how there are characters that come up again and again in his various works. Reminds me of Faulkner. (I wrote a letter to Stephen King once as a kid... praising him for this. Wonder if he ever got it?)

Yeah, it was the Rob Lowe's Salem's Lot. Mr. C made me watch that on tv with him when it came out. I can never remember the title for some reason!
You know, you are only 6 years older than me. My mom was very strict about what we watched growing up though, so there's a lot of stuff I haven't seen (or have just recently seen) that most people saw when they were growing up.
One of the reasons Mr. C really liked King's Dark Tower series was because of all the characters from other books that showed up in it. He's been trying to get me to read them, but I'm not a big fan of the sci-fi/fantasy genere. I prefer a good mystery (with little to no supernatural elements, other dimensions, or time travel) or non-fiction.

Has Mr.C ever read any Neil Gaiman??? I would suggest Neverwhere! At one time I had heard they were making it into a movie (It was already a BBC production... and reminded me of watching old Dr. Who episodes w/ my mom.) Luckily the story is good enough that I was okay w/ the look of it after awhile. STILL... it would be awesome to be redone.
Stardust was pretty good too... that is currently filming in Scotland i think or last I read which was awhile ago. Ah Scotland... home of my future hubby Gerard Butler. (insert dreamy SIGH here).
smile.
Oh... and If MrC loves the Gunslinger series then he's familiar w/ the bad guy in The Stand. If he likes King then I'm sure he's read The Stand.

I don't know if he's read Neverwhere yet, but we've both read American Gods (amazing book - even I could get into that one) and he's read Anansi Boys (which I call The Nancy Boys...really, he was just asking for that one). He's also read some of his comics, and a book that Gaiman contributed to called "Writers on Comic Writing". He didn't think The Nancy Boys was as good as American Gods though. He would probably really like the BBC version of Neverwhere - he is a big Dr. Who fan. He has this great coffee mug that has the Tartus (sp? - the phone booth time machine thingy) on it...when you pour hot liquid into the cup, the Tartus disappears. It's pretty cool!
