Okay, I know I'm probably gonna get laughed out of this forum, but here goes...
No one (that I've noticed) has recommended any musicals for "Classic" status.
I like musicals. Not only are they cheesy and naive, but there's just a sort of aura about them that I really like. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of all musicals. But a few that I would recommend are: The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Singin' in the Rain. (Those are two of my favs), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (I love that song "We're just two little girls from Little Rock" - not sure if that's the actual title or not.) West Side Story is also a good one, a musical Romeo and Juliet if you will.
Non-musical classics that I like are: Winchester '73, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Shenandoah. (Can you tell I love Jimmy Stewart?) I like It's A Wonderful Life, too, but I've seen it so many times that it kind of gets on my nerves now. Gone With The Wind falls into that category, too. I've just seen them waaaay too many times.
Titanic is good, but I agree with whoever said it was better on the screen than DVD. I'm not sure I'd classify it a classic yet, though. A classic for me means it's either in black and white or at least from the 50's and 60's.
Oooo I almost forgot one of my all time fav's...The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I've loved it since I was a teenager. And yes, I believe in ghosts (don't laugh, Johnny!) so that makes the movie all that much more of a fav for me.
Other good ones that are becoming classics for me, even though they were done in the 80's (when I was a teenager) are: The Goonies (the first time I saw Josh! A total hunk! I'm panting now...), The Breakfast Club, Stand By Me, Pretty in Pink, Better Off Dead, One Crazy Summer, B.R.A.T. Patrol (it was a TV-only movie with a very young Sean Astin), Red Dawn (Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen together? What more can I say...yum).
Anyway, that's my two cents. I think I've given ya'll enough to discuss or make fun of. So get to it!
p.s. Steph, I loved Eddie and the Cruisers, too. I used to watch it everytime it came on TV. Michael Pare was a total babe to me. Of course that's been some years ago and I don't know what he looks like now. (Man, am I brave or what for admitting that little secret?)
