I have never really been a HUGE zombie fan but I got halfway through Dawn of the Dead (I had to stop because little kids came in) and realized that it is a pretty good genre.
Before this my favorite zombie movie had been Shaun of the Dead, which although still funny is no where near as good as this (so far).
So what are your favorites?
And what should we check out?

Um, the only "zombie" movies I've seen have been movies with zombies in them. Resident Evil, The Mummy, and Hocus Pocus. I'm more for Vampires and Werewolves -- zombies are just too typically disgusting.

Hmm... obviously there are some classic zombie movies that I would tell you to watch to round out your cinematic education, like Night of the Living Dead , Re-animator, or even Plan 9 from Outer Space (but that is only for a historical look at zombiesque movies) As for movies that you might actually enjoy or that I'd highly recommend: I did like the remake of Dawn of the Dead. I'd say rent 28 Days Later (though not exactly a zombie film... it's the zombie genre w/ a twist, I guess). *** Haven't seen the sequel, but heard it was good. Okay... this movie probably won't hold up, but if you can get your hands on Night of the Comet... that's just some 80's Fun, right there!!! Hmm... Evil Dead 2 That's sort of a cult classic. Some of these movies are campy, but I enjoy that sort of thing.

-gasp- Zombie movies! I am the zombie movie Queen! Okay, not really, but I do love zombie movies, and have quite a nice collection of them so far. =D You can see all the ones I own here. Aw, it's a shame you didn't like the original Dawn of the Dead, Johnny. I would take that one over the new one any day. I do give the new movie credit, though. If it weren't for it, I wouldn't have been pulled into my zombie obsession. And I did love it for a long time, but the more I watched it, the more I realized it was lacking. It moves much too fast, and there isn't much character development. I love how the old one only has three main characters. The new one seemed to have a bunch, just so they could kill them off, like most typical horror movies. And then there's the whole moving fast zombies. I prefer the slow ones. Yeah, so maybe they're not as scary, but still, if you got caught in the middle of a ton of them, and there was no escape, you'd definitely be scared. And with the fast ones, the world would pretty much be screwed. At least we'd have a chance with the slow ones! But yeah, I like the remake, just I love the original much better. It's probably my favorite zombie movie. Shaun comes in close second, though. And then third would probably be Day of the Dead. I'm sort of dreading the remake to that one, though. I've heard some really bad things about it, and the trailer doesn't look promising, either. Anyway, ones I would recommend are most of the ones I own. Dead Alive is... really, really nasty, though. I got that as a blind buy. Had no idea it would be so gross. And Land of the Dead, while I do like it, it is sort of boring, and a bit off the wall in some ways. The Resident Evils are okay. The first one would be my favorite of the two. And I prefer the 1990 remake than the original Night of the Living Dead. Although the original is good (and a must watch to any zombie movie fan!), there's just something about the remake, that makes me love it more. I really can't explain it. LOL ~`Buffy`~

Aw, it's a shame you didn't like the original Dawn of the Dead, Johnny. I would take that one over the new one any day. My problem is that it's way too dated and just not really scary at all. I was bored beyond belief at the scenes with the humans gallavanting happily through the mall while cheesy 70s music played. Of course, whenever I voice my objections, I get "social commentary" thrown in my face. I prefer the slow ones. Yeah, so maybe they're not as scary, but still, if you got caught in the middle of a ton of them, and there was no escape, you'd definitely be scared. And with the fast ones, the world would pretty much be screwed. At least we'd have a chance with the slow ones! That's why I prefer the faster ones - scarier and they present a bigger challenge. I'm also not scared by psychotic pre-teens in horror movies, specifically because I know I could beat the crap out of them. Same thing with Chucky. I'd totally own that little freak doll. But I respect your opinion. There is indeed something unsettling about the slow, lumbering ones. And there are instances where they might be scarier. If you were trapped in a corner, with absolutely no way out, then the anticipation of them slowly approaching you would be freaky.

Hey Buffy, have you seen Hide and Creep? It's painfully low-budget, and no, it's not great, but it has some genuinely funny moments: www.themoviemark.com/badmovies/hideandcreep.aspIt periodically airs on the Sci-Fi Channel and is better than most of their originals.

Ah, that's understandable. I figure a lot of people are put off by it for being so old. The zombies are blue, after all. :X I actually like it for that reason, though. I like watching older movies, just for the sake of seeing how things used to be. Seeing old things and such. It's interesting to me. But I know not everyone feels the same way. LOL
Hehe. I think part of the reason I prefer the slower ones, is well, I think if zombies were real, that I'd actually stand a chance surviving with the slow ones. I know for a fact, I'd be dead with the fast ones. LOL But yeah, I agree with you how the fast ones are scarier. And yeah, I never understood how Chucky managed to kill so many people. He's a doll! He could so easily just be kicked to stop him!
No, I haven't seen Hide and Creep, but I'll definitely have to check it out! I think I have heard of it. Sounds familiar. I just never realized it was a zombie movie. I'll try to remember to set my DVR for it! =D
