Any Science Fiction lovers out there? I was at the doctor's office and reading an old issue of Entertainment Weekly or some magazine like that... and it's cover read the 25 best Science Fiction Shows/Movies of all time. (Or something like that). Unfortunately a good portion of the magazine was missing so I didn't get the complete list. What are some of your favorites? Okay... it's almost 3am and I'm tired so this is not a complete list but here's a few to start things rolling: Equilibrium Matrix Serenity Firefly (the t.v. series) BtVS (while we're talking t.v. series... though this is Fantasy) Alien & Aliens Blade Runner Metropolis Terminator (1 & 2) Planet Terror (Grindhouse) X2 Brazil Close Encounters... (for nostalgia's sake) I suppose I should put E.T., but I'm not sure I really want to. I suppose I should put some Star Wars and Star Trek movies on here too.... I'll have to think on it. For now... I'll give you Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. Wrath of Kahn was my fave of the Star Trek's as a kid. okay... going to bed now; will try to dream of comedies and sci-fi/fantasy flicks. Night.

You hit many of the basics, tangentgirl, many of the "must haves" with your list: Matrix, Terminator, Alien, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Wrath of Khan and many of their sequels. I have no argument with those. To that list, I would add:
12 Monkeys Back to the Future Minority Report I, Robot Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (I think I was one of three people who actually liked this one)
all of which reminds me of a conversation JB and I had a long time ago, (and which I'm too lazy to go and find), about what makes a movie "science fiction." It was a fascinating discussion between two brilliant individuals at the top of their respective games. But then, you'd expect nothing less from a conversation between JB and myself, now would you? Unless it was dissecting the finer points of Kate Beckinsale or Evangeline Lily.

The verbal repartee - the linguistic tête–à–tête, if you will - was both enlightening as well as entertaining. Atticus Finch had nothing on us. To add to the list: Pitch Black Frequency Signs Independence Day Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Butterfly Effect

I've never seen I, Robot --- heard it wasn't very good. I neither loved nor hated Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow... visually, I found it quite interesting & captivating. Thanks for reminding me of Twelve Monkeys... I'd like to watch that again. I haven't seen it since it was on the big screen. I really liked that one. I would like to add The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China (for Fantasy sake). If we're going cheeseball and you want to stick to strictly Sci-Fi... then I'd add the horribly delicious 1980's version of Flash Gordon. *** Please note that this is merely a nostalgia pick and nothing more. ***
