I was flicking some channels yesterday and there were a lot of really bad Christmas movies on. You know the deal, poor kid from a single parent family who can't afford presents. One channel had Tori Spelling and William Shatner bickering and the other channel had Jonathan Taylor Thomas in a Santa suit. Eeek!
What are some noteworthy Christmas movies. Noteworthy for being really good or really bad, of course.
#1 for me would have to be Bad Santa. A recent entry but it has to be seen to be believed. It's just the kind of humour that appeals to me. In fact, it could be in my top 10 all-time favourite movies.
A jaw dropper would have to be "Santa with Muscles" starring Hulk Hogan. I sh1t you not. It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Okay, so maybe it's a couple of days past, but I'm still going to contribute. It will give everyone good ideas for next year.
Two films that I have to watch every Christmas are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. I never seem to get tired of them.
In the "so bad it's good" category, you should definitley check out Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. You'll probably only find it as done by the good folks at MST3K, but that's okay. Their version includes the perennial yuletide classic song, "Let's Have A Patrick Swayze Christmas."
Can you still say "Merry Christmas" and not get sued?

Can you still say "Merry Christmas" and not get sued? Depends on what part of the country you're in. I think the folks in the Northeast (or as we Southerners call 'em - foreigners) get the most litigious at this time of the year. But here at the Movie Mark you can still use the word "Christmas" without fear! Now, as for Christmas movies... 1) A Charlie Brown Christmas - Hands down my favorite Christmas "movie" of all time. The season is not complete without it. Every time Linus says "Lights please" I start to get a little misty-eyed. 2) Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer - This is Stephanie's favorite, therefore, it gets watched as well. 3) It's a Wonderful Life - I know, I know - cliche city. But come on. 4) The Young Riders - the Christmas episode with Brian Keith! Of course, you'd have to be a fanatic who taped all the shows when it came on TV. As for really bad Christmas movies, well, I have a "horror" 10-pack that I bought for $5.99 a couple of years ago. 10 movies for about $6, can't get much worse than that, right? Right. One of the movies on there is Christmas Evil. Unfortunately, it's not of the "so bad it's good" craptitude. It's just bad. There are only two funny scenes in it. The rest is just painfully boring. The funniest scene is when the dude dressed as Santa (who, of course, murders people) is standing outside a church on Christmas Eve. As the people come out of the church they start laughing at him and mocking him for being dressed as Santa. I don't think that's typically how church-goers act right after a Christmas Eve service, but anyway... "Santa" gets mad and stabs one dude in the eye and some sort of weird green goo shoots out of the guy's eye. Interesting. I never knew our eyes were filled with green goo. One very odd tidbit is that Patricia Richardson (you know her as Jill from Home Improvement) has about a two minute scene as a boy's mother. Other thant that, I'll be floored if you've heard of anybody else in the cast.

Two films that I have to watch every Christmas are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation ... I totally agree! Chevy Chase was still funny then. I also can't get enough of The Ref... so: 1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2. The Ref 3. and since not so long The Polar Express.

My favorite Christmas movies are much older than most on this list. The Bishop's Wife (ahhh...Carey Grant as an angel...can't beat that) It's a Wonderful Life The Grinch Who Stole Christmas Mr. Cali's favorite Christmas movie ever is March of the Wooden Soldiers - it's an old Laurel and Hardy movie that he watched every year growing up...and it was actually on this year! I only caught the very end though, so I don't know how good it was. And of course, like JB, I love the Young Riders Christmas episode (Star Light, Star Bright). Brian Keith is always good (I am a big Parent Trap fan), but listening to all the riders "singing" Christmas Carols toward the end is the best part.
