Has anyone else seen this freaky movie? I hired it once and expected something boring as it starred Bill Paxton and Mathew McConWTFhey and it turned out to be the most disturbing thing I'd seen in a while. It still haunts me several years later. So much so that I *couldn't* see it again.

Well, I haven't seen it for the same expectations you had. Sounds like another thriller with yur typical badguy. But now I might go and rent it afterall, if it's disturbing I'm all for it.

This is a good creepy movie to watch late on Halloween night. I also appreciated that the twist at the end was effective and left you with some legitimate questions.
[glow=red,2,300]SPOILER ALERT[/glow]
It's easy to assume Bill Paxton's character is just a psycho, but I like that we were given just enough information to make us wonder if all his visions were real. It was a nice, subtle hint of the supernatural.

Yeah, you should rent it. The kids starring in it are amazingly good.

I saw it and had not so high expecations and was super shocked... I really liked the movie. Great ending. I own it actually. I keep trying to get my cousin to watch it but she can't stand scary movies. Not that I really think it's all that scary.

Thanks to TangentGirl for bringing these topics from before my time to the forefront again... I was curious about people's thoughts on this one.

Thanks to TangentGirl for bringing these topics from before my time to the forefront again... I was curious about people's thoughts on this one. So, is there a particular reason why you couldn't go the Tangentgirl route and read all the old posts yourself, Ms. NonFan? If you haven't seen Frailty yet and don't want the movie spoiled for you then read no further. If you'd like to see it then you can find it for a mere $5.50 in the Wal-Mart bargain bin. That's a great deal for this one. [glow=red,2,300]Spoiler Alert[/glow] Seriously though, I always get annoyed when I hear people discuss this movie and then just immediately dismiss Paxton's character as a nutjob. Did they not watch the end of the movie? Did they not pay attention all the way through? Come on, people, there's enough to leave you wondering and discussing! Watch closely and ask yourself if he truly was crazy or indeed on a mission from God. Were those humans he was killing or truly demons in human form?

That's why I was so surprised by this movie. I hadn't expected too much. I didn't think it would be a stinker, but I didn't expect to leave the theatre being that affected and left thinking.
It's not often that movies surprise me... and though I wasn't completely taken by surprise by the ending. It did make the hair on my arms stand up and make me seriously ponder some things.
I like movies that leave me thinking about them afterwards. In fact... now I want to rewatch it, but I can't.... alas... it's among the boxes containing 98% of my dvds that is already in Florida.
Oh... my dvd collection... how I miss you. Just in time for the upcoming hurricane season... should I be worried??? lol/smile.
For anyone who hasn't seen this movie... they should truly check it out.
Oh... Also worth noting:
This was the first time I experienced Paxton as a director... I remember thinking afterwards... "Good for you Chet". The Greatest Game Ever Played was quite good too, i thought. I hate golf and I enjoyed it.

I didn't see all of Frailty, but caught most of it when it was on tv one day. It was such a creepy movie! It was pretty much everything you want in a suspense film - good storyline, an original/unique mystery instead of something formulaic, a good twist ending. Considering how many "suspense" movies are anything but, this was nice to see.
I should actually watch the whole thing one of these days, but I haven't been in the mood for scary in a long time.

So, is there a particular reason why you couldn't go the Tangentgirl route and read all the old posts yourself, Ms. NonFan? Uh... no, Johnny. You've exposed me for the slacker that I am. You can take away one of my stars now...
**I can't stress this enough, folks...** [glow=red,2,300]Spoiler Alert[/glow]
Exactly! The aspect of Paxton's character (and performance) that created the most nutjob-doubt for me was that he didn't get joy from the killings - rather, it was his sense of responsibility (his quest?) that drove him to do it. Something tells me that a "nutjob" would have enjoyed it more.
In fact, he was even reluctant and disgusted at first, am I right? Plus, his reactions to the visions themselves - the extreme sympathy for the demons' victims, etc. - didn't scream "psycho" to me. It's that constant dilemma that gave the film its unique edge - and kept me utterly enthralled throughout.
An interesting study, to say the least...

hey... I actually just recently re- re watched this movie again. My brother-in-law totally freaked.
[glow=red,2,300]Possible Spoiler?![/glow] :
You'd have to have seen his actual reaction to get the pure enjoyment out of how funny he was. Let's just say that he had thought that Matthew's character (yes, we're on a first name basis... ok, I'm too lazy to look up the correct spelling of his name.) was the older brother and not the younger brother.
Changing your whole perspective. You're thinking he's the older brother who was a somewhat sympathetic character (cause his dad's crazy, right?)
Well... flip the script and no... the dad wasn't crazy and like the Blues brothers, he was on a mission from God. At least a very good case could be made for it.
It was fun to see his reaction.
