This was visually STUNNING. Beautifully filmed/created. Stellar and superb cast/acting. The only drawback is that story is very predictable. But even with no surprises, I still found it enjoyable.
When my brother saw it he thought it got a little too sappy. Personally, I thought it got a little cheesy myself, but nothing intolerable as the end of Terminator Salvation.
Definitely worth a watch; your choice at the price and time.

story was very derivitive. dances with wolves meets little big man meets jon carter of mars meets starship troopers meets aliens meets tarzans revenge. the first half of the movie was very good. the second half not so much. you could almost draw a line where the movie changed gears at the point where our heroes decided to start a mating session up in the day glo foliage. things went downhill quickly from that point.
visuals were just flat out amazing. i kept thinking that somewhere for the last 3 years, there have been a group of people locked up in some room doing nothing but rendering leaves. lots and lots of leaves.
i read a review today where some sharp eyed person noticed that navi is NATIVE without the ET. intentional - yeah, you can bet it was

So Yahoo just posted an article about the "hidden messages" in Avatar......yeah......not really "hidden." Hollywood, spending money like crazy on themselves and living the good life, always scream about the environment and protecting the little guy and how money is bad, bad, bad. *rolls eyes* Also, tolerance is a big issue with them, when they themselves scream "blacklisting" and "prejudice" and "censorship" when the "little people" disagree with them. Whatever. We should leave people alone on their land, and we should protect the environment. And we should find ourselves and what we want and fight for it when we do. Those are good messages, even Hollywood can get some things right

Saw it today.
The film was beautiful. Like, amazingly beautiful.
But the plot wasn't too hot.
I think it is worth seeing for the CGI.

I enjoyed it. It was a cinematic experience and worth the money (even the extra $1 for 3d glasses). I don't think I'll see it again in a hurry but I was generally blown away.
I'm waiting for Johnny's review of Sherlock Holmes before slapping down my money for that one.

I wonder if the 3d experience is significantly improved.
Edit: We want a Sherlock Holmes review!

I was one of those people rolling my eyes when I first saw the trailer for this movie. I did the whole geektastic thing of seeing the opening day/midnight showing. We saw it in IMAX 3-D.
I wasn't upset about the extra $4. I figure, go big or stay home.
The storyline was not so good, but it was visually stunning. I'm glad I saw it on the big screen and in 3D. I have no desire to see it again, but it really was a feast for the eyes.
