UGH. Ok-I got paid to see this, again, the only way I'd ever see this crap. Didn't read the book but I had someone rattle off the "story" to me (against my will) because they were convinced if I knew the story that I'd love it. YEAHHHHHH, hated it even more.
Whatever. Not that any of you insane fans care, you're going to see it whether you liked the first movie or whatever.
I will have to say that this movie was better visually than the first installment. Twilight (while I think it definitely improved the book) had a washed out look to it, and Bella already looked like she was a vampire. At least in this movie she looked passably human. I still deplore the "acting" in this movie, and seeing Edward shirtless more than a couple times was not pleasant. I still think Edward a dishonorable idiot and that if he wants to die he should honorably go pick a fight with a werewolf or a rogue vampire instead of screw over his family by exposing them along with the other vampires of the world and bring on them the wrath of the Voltri (or whatever they're called). And Bella needs to get a grip, many people have loved and lost and move on without becoming a pathetic "adrenaline junkie" so they can see a ghost of the person who dumped them. WHATEVER.
Most of the die hard fans of the books really liked this version. I liked the graphics of the wolves, they were cool. The rest? UGH.

Caught the late show last night w/ some friends and had a great time--- due mostly to the company seated around me and not anything up on the screen.
It's about what I expected it to be.... more money/better director = better movie. (Though I liked the music better in the first movie. I had a great time seeing it w/ friends. Mainly because like the character Jacob in this particular film... I can find humor in movies that aren't fab.
It was ok. The effects were pretty good. Kristen Stewart's acting didn't bug me near as much... only because for this particular installment the mood is right for Bella. This mood is why, initially, I wasn't as crazy about this book.
I loved the fake movie names. Made me laugh.
This one is pretty much a no brainer... the people who are going to love this movie have no doubt already seen it at least once. Anyone who is on the fence can wait until video or cable. There is plenty to moan and groan at with the over-the-top try for romance scenes with the music building up --- which, of course, makes it cheesier.
Despite this, however, I do look forward to the third movie though... finally more action... Eclipse was a better book than New Moon (although I did like that one better upon multiple readings).
You may very well think Edward is a waste of space and despicable. I won't argue your opinion on that. But to be clear...
***** Clarification: possible spoiler alert In the book... it explains that the opposite of this thought is more on point as far as repercussions go, anyway. Picking a fight w/ a werewolf would break the treaty and get his family killed, and his family would be more likely to get hurt or killed if he picked a fight w/ a random rogue vampire than death by Volturi. Edward's intended stunt would actually not have brought the Volturi down on his family. At least not at this point in the game... eventually they look for any excuse (mostly trumped up ones) to wipe out what they perceive as a threat to their power.

I just cannot be responsible for giving any more money to this franchise. I'm into vampire stuff but I read the first book at thought it was ridiculous & the first movie was really miscast. Good luck to all of those who like it but I'm side-stepping this one.

Dear TG,
I'll label this as spoiler even though everyone who cares about this already knows every detail of this crap story:
I said a WEREWOLF. The shapeshifters (especially Jacob) would love to take Edward out but they are actually shapeshifters and not true werewolves as is clarified in the 4th book. Victoria is a rogue vamp who would love to take him out and is already after him ANYWAY, and how, if he picks a fight with a rogue vamp in Brazil when his family is in Alaska or wherever, will that endanger his family? And IF such a fight would happen to endanger his family, they'd be in much less danger than with the Volturi who not only go after people who threaten their power, but also possess certain talents they'd like to be in control of, which Edward knows explicitly from reading people's thoughts. The Volturi have been after Edward and Alice for some time, and they will be happy to use ANY excuse to get at them or destroy them when they realize they won't be able to get them. Read book 4 again, I only skimmed it looking for the fight that was promised me THAT NEVER HAPPENED (LIES!) and I got that. Haven't you read these books like several times? If Edward had succeeded in breaking the rules, the Volturi would have used that just as they used the belief that a another rule had been broken in book 4.
Whatever. If we hadn't had 6 copies of this crap to screen before we put it on screen for the midnight and I was PAID, I wouldn't have wasted my TIME with this crap because I'm with AustralianAnn on this. I LOVE vampires, but I like GOOD vampire stuff and this is not it. The best part of this movie? Felix pummeling the CRAP out of Edward. And I was SHOCKED to see Lucian from Underworld! WOW. That was the second best part. Oh and Jacob doesn't look too bad, even if he's an idiot for liking Bella....

Wow... you are really passionate about books you haven't read ... I'm really surprised you even skimmed them after you couldn't get past the first book from the abuse you found it to contain.
Um... I think we have 3 people who like vampire stories, 3 people who agree that the movies aren't very good but the fans will see them regardless. 2 people who hate what parts they read of the books and 1 person who liked the books (some more than others).
I have indeed read the books numerous times and listened to the audio books in the car or steno writing to them for practice. I merely wrote the clarification point to be helpful to those who had not read the books. Definitely not to start an argument.
I don't have the time, energy, or desire to debate points of the book with someone who has actually read the book let alone someone who has not. I don't think that the Children of the Moon are explained until book 4 (even Jacob seems surprised in the 4th book when it was stated that the wolf back were not werewolves). None of that is neither here nor there. We were talking about New Moon and in that book they are indeed referred to as werewolves.
Look... I appreciate your passion... I can give you some sites you can go to if you would like to debate the books with people who share your passion (whether it be for or against the books). I don't care that much to discuss the Twilight books.
Want to talk about Sandman Slim or The Hunger Games (current book club picks)--- those are the books that I am in book club discussion mode for... smile.
If you or Ann want some other vampire book recommendations, I'd be happy to share some. smile.
Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine (Young Adult) is probably the one I like the best. House of Night books by P.C. and Kristin Cast are decent as is the Blue Blood series by Maria de la Cruz. Of course, I am a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, too... and I love Charlaine Harris' website. I have discovered many authors that I truly love from that site. Especially Patricia Briggs (more werewolf than vampire --- her Mercy Thompson series and Alpha and Omega series are wonderful)
Oh... and Charlie Huston. I love, love, love his writing. His style is more 'Pulp Noir' according to him/his web site. He has a vampire series that I enjoy (Joe Pitt) and some other books that have nothing to do with Vampires. ... including one of my all time favorite books "The Mystic Art of Erasing All Signs of Death". I think even JB and Laslo might enjoy that one. This one is a bit more hopeful than his Henry (Hank) Thompson 3-book series that was an emotional roller coaster. First book I loved... 2nd book had me totally pissed off and so angry that I had to wait around awhile before I could bring myself to read the last one that had me in tears. Every book was perfect even the one that pissed me off. I wouldn't change a word of it. God, I love his writing. Anyway...
So... I get being passionate about books and how they can fill you with happiness, rage, sadness. Trust me.
On the books we can just agree to disagree and leave it at that, but as for the movies... I think they are okay at best. Again... I think we are all in agreement. Go see it if it interests you. Go see it to get in your girlfriend's good graces... if she really wants to see it. Otherwise, wait for cable or skip it all together.

I agree to disagree. And if it makes you feel any better I'm just a passionate person in general.
