I think I can safely say this is the best movie this year so far. And yes, Star Trek was good, and The Soloist was excellent, but this movie? WOW. This is heavy R in language. I watched this from the projection booth (thanks to some friends who took copious notes of what to avoid) and there were some characters that apparently couldn't speak without F-bombs every other word (I kept the sound down for those characters). But the violent scenes are either actually pretty tame, simply implied, or you can see them coming (only exception being with the judge-thanks again to my friends and their notes). Foxx and Butler are RIGHT ON and work perfectly together and off each other. All the other actors/characters work exceptionally well. The script, the plot, direction, effects, and definitely the message are all poignant and expertly executed. DAAAAAANG. My only complaint is that they didn't make this a PG-13. And I hope everyone involved in our corrupt and messed up "justice system" sees this and make some changes.

I didn't love this one. Didn't hate it. It was entertaining for what it was. I will say that I know many people who absolutely LOVED this movie. So if you are thinking of seeing it... add in FM's glowing response and that's 3 people who thought it was excellent.
I don't know what rating it was, but I would have given it an R rating. (for violence)
Well acted. It was more predictable than I was led to believe. I might have liked it better if I didn't have people telling me how awesome it was and how you will never see "things" coming. The plot wasn't completely predictable, but it wasn't in league with The Usual Suspects or The Sixth Sense or even The Others.
It's for sure worth a matinee or a rental.
