AMEN JOHNNY!!!
I had been in the Tower Records, and actually bought a CD there because I had to have it RIGHT THEN and nobody else had it in stock (and I have limited access to record stores) but it was grossly overpriced. After hearing about them going out of business I was all excited to go in and get a deal on monday. I was disappointed that everything was only 10% off. I'm hoping the prices go down to 30% off with some good stuff still in stock. I did notice they had TYR on DVD.
I was not surprised at all to hear that they were going out of business. Here, it sites two stores away from the vacant building that used to be a Virgin Records store. We should just give up and make them all BARS!

I've bought exactly two things from Tower Records - some Bordertown DVDs that were in the $5 bin (whoo! I actually got 3 DVDs though, but I'm only counting them as 1 thing), and the Garden State Soundtrack...which Mr. C HAD to have immediately, and every other store in town was sold out. I think it was on sale for $17.99 or something like that, so we ended up paying about what we would in any other store.
I've never been a fan of Tower though.
And Rhi...what's up with the Virgin Records stores closing over a little damage? (Or a lot of damage since you are in NO). The one here in Burbank (which may or may not have been the first one, but was one of the first and kind of a landmark) had the roof cave in one day. So instead of fixing it, they just closed! What's up with that?!
And yes, We totally should just give up and make them all BARS!

I quite like Tower Records.... wait.... that's Empire Records that I like.
Tower Records was always a giant rip off. $17.99 was a sale price??? For a single CD... not a 2-disc set or a box set or anything. "That's CRAZY!"-- said as the Tracy Morgan character on SNL.

I've never been to Tower Records, since there was never one in my town in the first place. However, it doesn't sound like I missed out on much.
Although, I've read some editorials this past week that make it sound like the closing of Tower Records is tantamount to the apocalypse. A bunch of sentimental drivel about the loss of community, the impersonal nature of online shopping, etc. blah blah blah.
Maybe I'm just misanthropic enough to enjoy the impersonal nature of buying music online. Besides, when was the last time I actually wanted an ENTIRE cd from a band? 99% of my favorite bands' music I already have, and most of the newer stuff isn't worth an entire cd. The simple fact is that we are living in the age of the song, the single--not the album. The album age ended when they stopped making vinyl records. Any cd I get these days gets immediatley copied to my iPod anyway, so there you have it.
Okay, I'll stop now.
