As someone who has never seen an old school episode, and only occasional episodes of Next Generation (and they never really made any sense to me because I didn't know the whole premise at the time) I REALLY liked this movie. My husband, who has seen many of the old episodes, didn't like it as much as I did, but it was because of the ******Spoiler ********* time warp element they threw in there to connect the new idea with the old established characters. ************************************* Special effects/ visuals were awesome, and I've heard from other friends who got to see it in an IMAX theater that it was beyond spectacular. I can believe it. Well rounded cast of good actors, especially Chris Pine as James Kirk. I'd like to again point out his hotness and direct you to this review, which also details his hotness: www.themoviemark.com/moviereviews/princessdiaries2.aspI look forward to watching it again on DVD, which is always my hallmark of a good movie. Great follow up to Wolverine to kick off the summer blockbuster season.

my wife wants to see this on mothers day.
its going to be funny to me if the movie i thought would not be good (star trek) is better than the ones i thought were going to be great (watchmen, wolverine)
i saw a trailer for "moon" the other night. that looked pretty promising

I hope to go see it sometime. I'm not a Trekkie at all, but it looks like a fun movie to waste a couple of hours with.

Yeah, Hollywood's doing the whole series revamp with "a younger, hiper, edgier" philosophy that has sometimes worked and sometimes not. This time I think it'll work, with the stamp of approval from the original Spock and more importantly a legit plot reason.
I don't consider myself a Trekie, although I LOVE The Next Generation. The original was ok-saw about half the episodes, and probably one third of Deep Space Nine (eh), hardly anything of Voyager (EW) and some of Enterprise (eh). I have seen all the theater movies. Most weren't impressive.
This was impressive. Very entertaining, lots of action and humor. I think all will enjoy this. There were some filming issues -- almost always a glare on every scene which was exessive artistic design (less is more, people) but you kinda get used to it. I just hope that it's cut down for the next one. I liked Spock, but I'm not happy with the Spock love relationship which I thought out of character for Spock. I'm also not a Kirk fan, so I think he had way too much screen time, but he played his part well. (I won't insult him by saying he's better than Shatner because that is pretty much everyone....) Karl Urban was the PERFECT Bones and Scotty was RIGHT on. I've heard the rumor that the next film brings Kaan into this new version.....and that should be interesting.....As long as they continue to bring a freshness tempered with respect for the old, I'll be happy.

MsAng, you're adorable. Cute pic. I'm glad that you liked this movie because to be honest. I haven't seen a single trailer that has looked interesting to me. I was thinking about seeing it tonight but will probably wait until after church tomorrow. I have to check on showtimes for the IMAX theatre.
As for your love of cheesy movies... I, too, have a love of cheesy movies (with or without Anne Hathaway, in my case.) I loved Ella Enchanted. I saw it in the theater. I recently bought a book at my niece's book fair that is by the same author. I think it's called Fairest.
Anyway... glad to hear a positive review of the movie.
I will have to think about whether I want to see it tonight or curl up w/ new book instead. hmmm... decisions, decisions.
Update: apparently that's not the only decision. I just checked movie times and now I have to decide on IMAX or Digital Projection or the regular cheaper version. Now what do I do??? hmmm... better check my pocket book.

After a weekend long marathon of the original movies (2, 3, 5 and 6. 6 was the best.) I'm ready to see this one, now.

I enjoyed it A LOT!!!! My sister (who's first crush was, in fact, James T. Kirk) loved it!!!
I went ahead and splurged for the IMAX, but think seeing the digital would have been just fine. I think I'm jaded since the only movie I ever saw in IMAX (a few times) was The Dark Knight. That had scenes that were actually shot in IMAX or whatever. I kept excepting some cool stuff like that, but... never happened.
(Also, this IMAX theater was inferior to the other one. Figures!!! Oh well.)
In anycase... whatever format you choose, I think you'll like it. I especially loved "Bones".
It's a nice start to a renewed franchise.

I'm trying to get my dad to see this. He doesn't leave the house much and I think this will get him off the couch for a couple of hours. He likes Star Trek so hopefully he'll stay awake for all of it.
ps- tigerjeb you have a great picture.
