WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU CAN'T SLEEP??
Since I am moving in 8 days and my tv, dvd player, and most of my books... are all packed up--- I have been dealing w/ my latest bout of insomnia by reading posts at nausea.
It has led me to wonder who I find more humorous... JB or Laslo. I am having a very tough time deciding. It's fun to read though I admit to feeling a tad stalkerish.
I also have discovered that MsCali and I have very different tastes in movies. smile.
I don't like sleeping aides, but I may have to resort to one. Hmmm... I've got Benadryl which always knocks me out or some liquor in the freezer and pantry.
Perhaps I'll simply lay in bed w/ my eyes shut... it could work eventually.
Okay... good night everyone. I often have a hard time sleeping even when I feel tired (except...unfortunately when I'm driving long distances). Anyone with suggestions for dealing w/ insomnia... let me know.
thanks, DEW

It has led me to wonder who I find more humorous... JB or Laslo. Hey, for my money, NikkiBlueJeans cracks me up. I am having a very tough time deciding. It's fun to read though I admit to feeling a tad stalkerish. So that's you in the bushes outside my house?

All righty then, and the process of deleting tangentgirl's profile from the message board begins... Anyone with suggestions for dealing w/ insomnia... let me know. I recommend renting Syriana or Alexander for that purpose and that purpose only. If you're not asleep within 10 minutes then you simply have a higher tolerance for crap than I do.

If you can find a cure for Insomnia that doesn't involve tv, I'd be interested (though, I am trying to avoid having to take anything). Though, last week I started getting up when Mr. C does at 6:30 am so we can have coffee together before he leaves for work (I don't have to leave for work until 10, so I used to get up at 9 or 9:30). I get tired earlier now, and don't end up laying awake until 3 or 4 am trying to get my brain to STOP. THINKING. ABOUT. WORK! (July is our slowest month, so I had insomnia a lot this month). Hmmmm...maybe a good cure for insomina would be to watch Insomnia (the movie with Robin Williams & Al Pachino). I remember being quite bored by that movie...

If you can find a cure for Insomnia that doesn't involve tv, I'd be interested (though, I am trying to avoid having to take anything). I've found that hiring someone mastered in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to choke you out works quite well. I just use my former trainer though so I can get a good discount. Though, last week I started getting up when Mr. C does at 6:30 am so we can have coffee together before he leaves for work Altogether now ... 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... AWWWWWWWWW! Hmmmm...maybe a good cure for insomina would be to watch Insomnia (the movie with Robin Williams & Al Pachino). I remember being quite bored by that movie... HEY! Insomnia is a good movie! After all, it was Christopher Nolan's follow-up to Memento. Great performances, and a really good story.

Was Insomnia the one where they were somewhere that had the whole light all the time part of the year thing going on? That is very disconcerting... I'd rather it be light all the time than dark all the time though.
Was it a remake of a foreign film??? I remember feeling like I had seen that movie before and liked it better that first time I saw it.
The book Insomnia is good.

I remember feeling like I had seen that movie before and liked it better that first time I saw it. Yeah, the detectives go to Alaska to investigate the murder of a teen. The sun never sets, and Al Pacino (one of the detectives) finds the combination of that and a hidden secret keeps him from being able to sleep. He slowly slides towards insanity. It is a remake of a foreign film - one I've never seen. Along with the great performances and well-crafted storyline, the scenery and cinematography is pretty impressive as well.

Now Johnny.... why would you delete my profile? smile. Remember that lack of sleep can make you hallucinate. Didn't you see The Machinist. (I just wanted to see how many times today I could bring attention to Christian Bale.) Renting Alexander... (sounds painful) Hiring someone to put me in a choke hold... (not while in bed... too kinky for me. ) Now you are just trying to win me over with your wit--- show off! You know... you can both be funny. smile. As for being outside of Laslo's bushes.... wasn't me, but JB can attest to my stalking abilities as I have been stalking him off and on via email for some time now. (If I was more technologically savvy, I would have found my way to these boards long ago... I also would have been able to figure out how to make those "quote" boxes instead of making this message 4 times as long as it needs to be. *** And for the record.... it was the fact that JB's reviews made me laugh out loud that started the stalking. smile. My ex- had a bit of a foot fetish... I have a "wit"-fetish.... and it knows no gender so I'd say a lot of you out there should be afraid. **** I also have a great appreciation for sarcasm.... and an unfortunate penchant for procrastination. Having said that.... I need to be packing.... so that is what I shall do now... so YOU are all safe --- For Now!!! (Insert maniacal laughter here) Ciao--- DEW

To do the quote boxes:
At the beginning of the quote: (quote) At the end of the quote: (/quote)
Replace the () with [] instead.

Laslo: Has everyone met my new best friend Laslo?!? Thanks, man! I'm glad that my rants and raves entertain you.
JB: You might also try The Talented Mr. Ripley, Pay It Forward, The Cider House Rules and Big Fish.
**Nikki quickly checks IMDB.com to verify that none of these massive time-wasters were directed by Christopher Nolan**
JB: [glow=red,2,300]**Possible Spoiler (I don't remember if it's a secret or not...)**[/glow] Tangentgirl, cover your eyes!!

Laslo is on too something... Nikkibluejeans' posts are quite humorous. Sure, we also have varying opinions on movies (as I actually at least partially enjoyed all her cure for insomnia movie choices.
[glow=red,2,300][/glow]HOWEVER...[glow=red,2,300][/glow]
We're both FANdersons ==== so she's SUPER COOL in my book. * Please note that the term "FANderson" is a soon to be licensed trademark (or should be). I just wanted to use it once... and now I'm good!
NBJs term NOT mine:
As for the movie Insomnia... I've been to Alaska (everyone should go once in their lives by the way) during the summer solstice and it is a very strange sensation. I knew I had seen that movie before... meaning the foreign flick. It had Stellan Skarsgard (sp?) in it. (POTC:DMC fans will know him better as Bootstrap Bill Turner). Probably a Scandinavian film... makes sense.
I'd recommend that version. While I'm plugging his movies... I'll plug Breaking the Waves--- the first movie I saw him in. I love Lars Von Trier almost as much as Wes Anderson.
If anyone can come up w/ a witty "FANderson" equivalent for those who like Lars... let me know and you will be crowned the wittiest person on the boards. We can put an end to the whole Laslo vs. JB vs. Nikkibluejeans debate once and for all.
I've got nothing! (Lars Fan Trier is too lame to even consider).
Think on it.
I must now watch Phantom of the Opera on MsCali's suggestion. True, we have different taste in movies as well... but as she pointed out to me... my boyfriend is in it. btw--- he was Creedy in Reign of Fire.

No. Was he ever actually funny? Because I never found him to be funny at all. I actually prefer him much more as a serious actor - I think I may have been in the wrong mood for Insomnia when I watched it, because it's the type of movie I would normally like (though, Al Pacino kind of freaks me out). I really liked him in One Hour Photo. I would really be excited about "Man of the Year" if anyone but him were in it (it's a comedy).
And in looking up the title of "Man of the Year" on IMDB, I just saw that he is currently in production on Mrs. Doubtfire 2. *Shudder*
And Tangentgirl, I wish I could convince Mr. C about having to go to Alaska. He has no desire to go.
Though, maybe I'll just drag him off to Greenland or Iceland during the summer instead. Those are the next two countries on my list of places I want to visit (after we go back to Ireland next year).
If I could go to the North Pole, I would in a heartbeat! There's just something so appealing to me about going to the top of the world!

I've heard mixed reviews on Iceland, but I too would like to visit it for more than a couple hours and see more than the airport. Very nice airport and I would recommend Iceland Air, they were fantastic every time I flew them on route to France.
Alaska is the most amazing place and I have to jet or I could drone on forever about why Mr.C should be convinced to go. lol/smile.
later, DEW
Oh... I have found Robin Williams to be funny in the past and I'm sure I still do. I too enjoy him in his more serious roles. Yet the first thought that comes to mind when I think of Robin Williams is "Gosh, He's a hairy beast!"

The closest I've been to Iceland is flying over it on the way to and from Ireland - I think I took more pictures of Iceland and Greenland from the plane than I did the whole time we were in Ireland!
I will get him to Alaska one of these days! One of our wedding gifts was this gigantic world map, with pins to put in it for all the places you've been, and all the places you dream of going. We have dream pins all over the world - not one in Alaska, but that's mainly just because I ran out (they didn't give us many "dream" pins...I need to get some more). Most of the dream pins are at the top or bottom of the world though - Russia, Iceland, Greenland, the Arctic, the Antarctic, Australia, New Zealand...and a few in the mid-east.

**Nikki quickly checks IMDB.com to verify that none of these massive time-wasters were directed by Christopher Nolan** You're safe. I thought Big Fish was OK - not great but not horrible, and I haven't seen the other ones because I've had people warn me to stay away. I refuse to see Pay It Forward because I HATE people using the term "pay it forward" to indicate doing good deeds. "Be a good citizen and pay it forward, man. You gotta be like Spacey and just pay it forward." Yeah, aren't you just so cool and trendy! ...Remember when Robin Williams used to be funny
I gotta agree with Ms. Cali and say that I don't remember this time period either. If I ever did think he was funny then those memories were completely erased the first time I saw him on David Letterman acting like the unfunniest, coked-up werewolf in the world. As for Wes Anderson - I enjoyed The Royal Tenenbaums , Rushmore, and Bottle Rocket, with Rushmore probably being my favorite of the three. Hmm, and let me attempt to come up with a nickname for all you Lars Von Trier fans out there - "Trier-huggers" perhaps? That's all I got for now.
