The November issue of Interview Magazine features an interview with Josh Brolin (by Eddie Vedder). It's a great interview.
And in it, Brolin talks a little bit about a project he just finished (I think...I don't think he's still working on it). It will be a tv miniseries based on Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States."
First, if you haven't read this book, you should. It's a look at American History through the eyes of those who were not generally in your school history books - the labor leaders, people like John Brown, people who sailed with Columbus, etc. It's based on their letters, speeches, writings, etc.
I saw Josh in a reading based on the book a few years ago (he was part of a great ensemble, reading from the letters, speeches, etc. the book was based on). Now, he is going to be part of the case of the miniseries.
There's nothing on IMDB about it yet, and I have no idea when it will air, but if you like Josh Brolin, and/or you like American History, be on the look out for it.
(And I will admit, the book has a pretty liberal slant to it, and the author doesn't make any attempt to hide that...he comes right out and says it in the introduction. But it's a good read, even if you don't agree with the viewpoint, just to get an idea of the "other" people in history. I like to have information from all viewpoints so I will be well-rounded. Mentally that is. I don't want to be well-rounded physically!)

mmm... Eddie Vedder. Oh how I loved thee... let me count the ways.
I'll have to check out that interview for both sides. smile.
The series/ book sounds interesting as well.
I like to be well-rounded as well. Unfortunately, I am apparently too well rounded (physically) for my own good --- or at least for the new bar manager at work.... and I shall now be jobless. Ah... if only he was more well rounded (mentally).

Um, is it legal for him to fire you for that? I would be filing a claim! I'm sorry you will now be jobless. I hear FL isn't the best place to be looking for a job these days.

Yeah, that doesn't sound quite right.
But the People's History thing sounds pretty cool.

Oh... I didn't get fired. And Florida is NOT a good place to be looking for a job. However, the new manager has decided the best way to increase business in this depressed economy is to get younger, more attractive (and in my case thinner) bartenders. He started scheduling me only service bar shifts and wouldn't give me front bar shifts anymore. I heard through the grapevine the reason from several people. He claims it's my lack of availability--- I can work anytime on Friday, Sat., and Sunday... and three Wed. nights a month. Yet... every weekend there is at least one person working a double so I don't see how there aren't any front bar shifts available for me. He also hired his friend, who has NO restaurant experience at all, let alone bartending experience. I'm sure he's a nice person, but he is a horrible bartender (anyone who has to work w/ him says so; he was never fully trained and again... has no prior experience.) This guy gets prime closing shifts and I can't even get an opening day side shift. Meanwhile... let's keep the chubby girl in the back who has 13 years w/ the company and 17 years experience in restaurant industry (15 bartending) and who gets complimented on the job she does on a daily basis. That's not me tooting my own horn, either. People like to work w/ me because I'm a team player, a hard worker, and I'm fun. (Okay, it would sound like me tooting my own horn, if it wasn't true.) To make more money, I could be moved to the floor and wait tables --- but I can do this somewhere that is closer to my house. I drive 45 minutes to get to the restaurant I work at. I was going to out right quit, but I put in for a LOA early... so I can pick up shifts while I'm home for 3 weeks looking after my grandma over the holidays. Maybe there will be a new bar manager by the time I get back, and I'll continue to work there. Probably not though... who wants to work in an environment like that --- knowing that. I am contacting Human Resources though... so they can look into his behaviors. He is also slowly trying to oust out some of the older bartenders. I am no spring chicken, mind you... but I did inherit some good genes from my dad's side of the family and NO ONE ever thinks I'm as old as I am. For now I am concentrating on my school work ,and I'll begin looking for a new job after the holidays. Feel free to send good thoughts, prayers, or whatever my way. I could use it. smile.
