Okay... so I was checking out Rotten Tomatoes to see if I could find out what Vicky Christina Barcelona (? ) was about. It got decent marks, BTW, but then I found out it was a Woody Allen film and I have now lost interest.
Anyway... so then I notice that Mirrors got a 30, which while still considered rotten, is extremely high marks in my opinion for this genre of film. Horror movies generally don't do well. I love them, but they rarely deliver for me. I want to be scared, not just grossed out. Remakes of Asian Horror movies have not faired that well with me, aside from The Grudge which actually had me jump in my seat a couple times. Anyway... while reading more up on Mirrors (the trailer for this didn't really have me intrigued) I discovered that this director is making Piranha 3-D.
I would NOT have believed this if someone had just said, I can't wait for Piranha 3D to come out. I would have laughed hysterically at their obvious joke. But No! It's the truth, Ruth.
Here's my confession, friends: I'm a bit surprised that instead of the eye-rolling reaction I would have expected, I found myself a bit giddy. True, I think this movie will probably bite. At the box office, it will be dead in the water. Okay... those were super lame, but the side of me that is excited by the prospect is fighting w/ the other side which is groaning.
Hey, I'm a gemini... I can have 2 sides at inner turmoil. smile.
I LOVED piranha as a kid. And I do mean kid. I was Lit-tul when I saw it. And it scared me, but not as much as The Swarm did.
Anyway... just thought I'd mention it. I don't know if I could bring myself to see it in the theater, but who knows. What if it didn't totally blow??? (See, I stayed away from the puns... feel free to add your own, much more clever ones, though.)
That's my moment of nostalgic bliss. I'm sure if I watched the original Piranha today, that both sides would groan. Or perhaps laugh. The only scene I truly remember is the old man w/ the dog, right? On the little dock. Maybe I don't even remember that well.
J.B. --- can I add this to your Drive-In Summer movies?
A double feature of Piranha and The Swarm? (Or other such movies in that vein.)
