Anyone out there listen to Christian music? Its hard to find some really good artists, but I know of a few:
Phil Wickham (he's really great, sounds kinda like Coldplay, but with more acoustic guitar) BarlowGirl (3 sisters who play together) Jars of Clay (what can I say about them that hasn't already been said?)

Yes, my husband and I do. We've got quite a collection. As far as Christian rock goes, there are several we like:
1. Jeremy Camp 2. Kutless 3. Third Day 4. Switchfoot 5. Circleslide 6. Storyside B
A few others we like that are a little on the lighter side:
1. Mercy Me 2. 4 Him 3. Michael Card 4. Newsboys 5. Casting Crowns
I like Lifehouse also and have heard that they are Christian. A lot of their songs get played on secular radio, which is a good thing. I agree, BarlowGirl and Jars of Clay are good as well.

I was listening to the radio the other week and, when stopped at a light, turned my christian radio station down so no one would hear me listening to it. I felt guilty and thought- Oh no! Am I denying Christ, by being ashamed of this christian music? Then the next day I realized I am not ashamed of the message, but of the style of music. There are 2 christian radio stations that come in, and both of them play mostly pansy music- the kind of style that was new and edgy in christian music about... oh... 20 years ago. And thesame songs over and over... the ones that were new...10 years ago. I'm ashamed to be caught listening to this middle aged soccer mom music (no offense to any cool soccer moms out there) when I look like I'm in college!
TaMara, I'll have to look into Phil Wickham... I like coldplay...
Any other suggestions? My husband likes alternative/rock, and I like folk rock, some alternative... Just something with more tracks than voice, drums, synth and guitar, for crying out loud. And maybe some voices with substance and good harmonies?

Ms Ang, that is exactly the reason I quit listening to Christian music...oh about 10 years ago, when even the songs that were new then sounded at least 10 years old. Plus, the lyrics always seemed to lack any substance for me...it's sad when non-Christian music can have deeper lyrics about real life than Christian music (there are a few groups whose CDs I still break out occassionally...DC Talk is the main one I never stopped liking).

Ok, here are the bands that they've only released one song as of now, but its a good one song.
Flyleaf (played on mainstream radio as well) Anberlin (they say they're not Christain; Unwinding Cable Car) Fireflight (harder that the others, Unbreakable is a great song) Tenth Avenue North (Love is Here)

Thanks for the recommendations.

tamzcam,
Glad I can lead you to some good songs. I like Kutless as well. They have this one song that I really liked, but I've forgotten it. It was played on Air1, but I'll have to do some searching. Strong Tower is a good song.
Switchfoot is a hit and miss with me. Some of their songs I really love, but others I will turn the radio if they come on. I really like the one they made for Prince Caspian. Jon Foreman collaborated with one of my favorite artists, Sean Watkins this year but they haven't released anything except on myspace.
I know a song by Sanctus Real, Don't Give Up is good. I don't know about the rest of their stuff.
I love dc Talk as well. I wish this hiatus would stop. tobyMac is hit and miss with me. I'm not much into hip hop (at all, really) but some of his stuff is ok. His song Burn for You is good. In his remix version of Atmosphere the other guys from dc Talk sang with him. Its really good.
I like the song from Robbie Seay Band, Song of Hope.
Don't worry MsAng, I've made up for it for you. I actually turn it up louder when I come up to people. But its usally to drown out the rap music playing next to me.

TaMara, what is DC Talk up to these days? I loved their early stuff (when it was mostly rap, and if it rhymed it was in the song. Such fun! LOL), but I haven't really listened to much since the Jesus Freak album (which was such a great album, musically - their remake of Day by Day is one of my favorite songs of theirs).
I know they did a Solos album, but I never really liked that too much. They are all good musicians on their own, but there was just a magic that happened with them as a group. I saw them in concert several times when I was a teen, and they put on a great show.

Michael Tait has his band, Tait. Kevin has his solo career, and has released a few albums. But I don't think his solo work considered "Christain." And tobyMac has been the most sucessful, with three albums out. He is on ALL the time on Air1.
A slow day at work let me find that Kutless song I liked. Its called Treason!
Relient K is pretty good. I have their latest album. They are played on Christain and mainstream radio. Some of their singles weren't relased for mainstream though.

TaMara,
Treason by Kutless is good, but my favorite by them is Not What You See. I have heard the song you mentioned by Sanctus Real and like it a lot, I just didn't know the name of the group. Another group I like is Falling Up.
I have never been able to get into DC Talk - because of the rap - it's just not something I enjoy listening to.
The youth Pastor at our church gets CD's all the time and we borrow them from him. We have so much music right now on our computer and I haven't had time to listen to it all yet and learn the names of the groups, but I'm working on it.
Gravity by Circleslide is a really good song as well.

Not What You See is a good song! I do like Treason better, though . Oh my gosh, I love, love, love that song by Falling Up, Broken Heart. For so long I had no idea who sang it and would hear it all the time on Air1. I searched their top hits pages through a year looking. I have some more songs I like, and artists. Gravity by Shawn McDonald is a great song. I don't know about the rest of his stuff. Paul Wright is one of my favorite artists. I can't believe I've forgotten about him. He plays all kinds of music, but his best is his acoustic. Take This Life and Sunrise to Sunset are really good. If you like harder stuff, I like The Almost. I'm actually going to get Southern Weather pretty soon. The Afters are lighter, and they have some pretty good songs: Beautiful Love and Never Going Back to Ok.

TaMara,
Thanks again for the recommendations - I'll check them out. I just listened to Broken Heart by Falling Up and I like it.
Another group I just thought of that I like is Leeland. We have some of their songs, but I hadn't listened to them yet. I was flipping through the channels the other day and TBN was airing a Harvest Crusade concert that had Kutless and Leeland on it. Leeland played "Sound of Melodies" and their new one "Opposite Way" and I liked them both.
I'm sure there are other groups out there that I like that I'm just not thinking of at the moment.

Brandon Heath's song Give Me Your Eyes is good.
I like Delirious, but I only know The Mission Bell and World Service (favorite songs are Inside Outside and Raindown). AND I just read that they are going to take a break at the end of 09. Arg.
A song that had been out for a few months is To Bring You Back by Paul Alan. I like it a lot.
I'll have to check Leeland out.

The Christian legalist in me wants to say, you can only listen to Christian music.
But! I'm a huge music fan and critic and the lack of creativity in a lot of Christian music really turns me off. Some "Christian" artists became Christian artists because they couldn't cut it in the mainstream arena.
So - I've really tried to put my Christian music listening to good use. I use it to worship. When I listen, which is daily, I listen when I want to dedicate time to the Lord, rather than just have it on in the background as noise.
Here are some of my fav artists and songs:
Praise Adonai Paul Baloche Angus Dei/Worthy, You Are Worthy Third Day Let Everything That Has Breath Jeremy Camp God of This City Bluetree Draw Me Close Kutless Here I Am to Worship Anthony EvansHere I Am to Worship Jeremy Camp The Old Rugged Cross Chris Rice Victory In Jesus Tony Weeks You Are My King (Amazing Love) Newsboys When I Think About the Lord Christ for the Nations Music Blessed Be Your Name Tree 63 Holy, Holy, Holy Steven Curtis ChapmanHow Great Is Our God Chris Tomlin Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) Chris Tomlin

Have some more:
Remember (IOU) by Big Dismal. They only have one album, and they were relased by the same label as Creed and they sound a lot like them. The lead singer I believe sings country now.
Let's Go Back by Everday Sunday Fade Away by Day of Fire Never Be the Same by Red Paradigm by All Together Separate (I love that name!) Nuisance (featuring Matthew Thiessen from Relient K) by John Reuben
Hero by Skillet. I haven't been a huge fan of Skillet but their new song I just can't get enough of!
