Just for the record, I only saw a part of it because I was flipping channels and apparently MTV has been playing it over and over and over again daily, but anyway, MTV SUCKS. Besides the fact that teenagers watch this crap, WHY would you have the moron stars of the soon to be released moron druggie movie The Pineapple Express have this long discussion about drugs and drug use right before the presentation of the award for Best Movie So Far when the star of the winning movie, Iron Man, had a horrible struggle with drug use and drug dependancy? It was incredibly insensitive and STUPID as well as not being even in the slightest funny, and I could tell by Downey's expression that he was not impressed. MTV, you SUCK.

Eh, it was just pot. Downey had problems with much stronger drugs. He can't expect everyone around him to walk on eggshells just because he had a problem with drugs (I'm sure part of his recovery is learning how to deal with situations just like that), just as an alcoholic can't expect people not to drink just because they are around. People have to take responsibility for their own selves, separate from what others around them do.
Not that I smoke pot. The one time I was around it in an indoor setting, I got a wicked migraine. Killed any desire I may have ever had to try it (not that I had much of one before that). But I do think it should be legal (in the same way cigarette smoking is legal here in Burbank - over 18, regulated, no smoking in restaurants or any other public building, no smoking within 20 feet of an entrance to a public building or restaurant, no smoking at all in Downtown Burbank, and no smoking while you drive - which is not actually part of the law here yet, but probably will be CA state law soon). So, basically, smoke in the privacy of your own home (as long as there are no children around...yeah, that will probably be CA state law too) and keep it away from me. LOL.
I was suprised that they did that whole bit though, what with pot being illegal and all. Did you notice how MTV panned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back from them so you couldn't really see it at all? Also, the MTV demographic is under 18 for the most part, so it was rather irresponsible of them to show it - that upsets me more than the fact that they did it in the presentation of an award that went to Downey.
For the record though, MTV does suck (for that and many other reasons, including both My Super Sweet 16 and The Real World), and the MTV Movie Awards are generally sucky overall anyway.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear my first time. Just too freakin PISSED the first time. Let me try again.
"Eh, it's just pot." Satistics show that pot is the "first" drug of the slippery drug slope and despite the fact that predominately kids watch MTV, and drugs don't belong at ALL not to mention illegal ones, it was even more tasteless about MTV's timing. Downey got started on drugs at eight through his father -- and oh, it was pot by the way. Then here he is, promoting a clean, comic book movie geared for all ages except young kids, and MTV has this drug content. Just like him, I'm sure he was REALLY upset not about the drug content (he's been in movies with drug content -- the soon to be released Tropic Thunder for example), but WHERE it was being done and how. Why, IF they were going to have a druggie thing which they shouldn't have anyway, did they pick that award presentation to have it? MTV is less descret than the Academy -- they KNOW who is going to win the award before they "present" it, and Downey has had a VERY public history with drug use. So, why do a drug thing on MTV that is watched by kids, do it in front of the award given to an actor who got hooked on drugs as a kid, it's just STUPID and it pissed me off and I know it pissed off Downey (which made him go up in my opinion).
MTV sucks. I did notice they panned way back. So what? It shouldn't have been in there. Pinneapple Express is an R. It has no business being advertised on a channel geared to teens. It shouldn't even be MADE, but if you are going to make a crap movie like that then at least advertise it appropriately and DON'T use an actor's history to emphesize it even more.
MTV SUCKS.

Oh, I agree with you that MTV sucks for this whole thing, except for the part about whether it was more inappropriate for that particular award than any other. I think it was just inappropriate, period, for the simple fact that 1) pot is illegal still, and 2) if it were to be made legal, it would almost certainly be for people over 18 only, not exactly MTV's target demographic (and even if some people over 18 do watch MTV - which, seriously, The Hills? Totally worth watching MTV for. Heh - enough of their audience is under 18 to make it irresponsible). And I agree about the R rated movies being marketed toward teens. Movies like Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, etc. are definitely targeted toward teens (not just in their marketing, but the movie itself), and that annoys me (those were rated R right? If not, they certainly should have been, and I am pretty liberal about what I think is appropriate content in movies). Oh, and I was just commenting about them panning way back, not because that made it any better, but because I just found it interesting that they did it .

Yeah, FM, those movies you mentioned were both R. When I went to see Superbad, I was the oldest one in the theatre. (And I was 19 when I saw it) That's kinda saying somehting. I seriously hope when I see Pineapple Express that the audience is a bit more mature.
I hate the MTV awards now that they've done away with the movie parodies. That was the only reason I watched them.
