Christmas in the Clouds is of course a movie set around Christmastime. It's revolves around life at a ski resort that's owed by Native Americans and they're trying their darnest to get in some travel guide.
It's really a "cute" movie. I know that sounds lame, but it really is a good movie. There's really nothing that you can't figure out from the very beginning as to how it'll end...happily of course. Think of a comedy with some romance thrown in.
It starts out with the ski lodge's owner's father having a pen pal relationship with another Native American (I think she lives across the country) and she travels to meet him. Except she never realizes her pen pal is a much older man and mistakes his son for her pen pal. The son in turn mistakes her for the tourist guide book lady...(okay, so I'm not much for terminology!)
It was just a refreshing kind of movie and neat because most everyone was Native American. It has Graham Greene in it - I've always liked him. And a guest appearance by Wes Studi as himself at the huge bingo tournament.
I know this movie may sound lame, but it's worth the time to watch it if you can find it. I rented it at Blockbuster a couple months ago...but they only had the one copy. It's from December 2005, but I only just now have seen it "out".
To be perfectly honest it's much more of a chick flick I suppose, but it wouldn't be completely boring for a guy either because there is quite a bit of comedy thrown in when you least expect it. Think Northern Exposure in movie form...quirky characters and humor that comes out of left field.
Give it a shot if you're tired of the same-old same-old.
