This is a brilliant little film that was all the buzz at Sundance a few years ago. Based loosely on the book "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven" By Sherman Alexie, this movie was written, directed, and acted almost exclusivley by American Indians.
The plot centers around Victor Joseph and Thomas Builds-The-Fire, two young men living on the Coeur d-Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho. Victor receives word one day that his alcoholoic and abusive father Arnold, who left when Victor was ten, has died in Arizona. Victor and Thomas leave the reservation for the first time in their lives and make the journey to retreive Arnold's body. It's a story of forgiveness and redemption, wonderfully told in the style of American Indian folklore tales. It's both funny and poignant, with richly drawn characters that will resonate with the viewer, regardless of their ethnicity.
It's worth it just for a funny recurring character named Lester Falls Apart, who sits on top of a broken van by the side of the road and gives traffic and weather updates to the reservation's radio station.

I haven't seen this, but now I'm intrigued.
Thank you, Laslo Pitches Effectively. (Okay, it's a little long for an Indian name, but very accurate. )

You're welcome, Nikki Wears-Boot-Cut-Levis. (actually, your screen name is a pretty good Indian name...I just did a slight modification.)
Let me know if you ever see it, and we can dissect the layers of symbolism ad nauseum.

Oh I love this movie. A nerdy Native American? Who can say no?
"Hey Vic-tor!"
