Well, I haven't looked too hard for a previous post (regarding this), but in case you didn't see my post in Upcoming Movies, there is going to be a TV miniseries of Comanche Moon. Larry McMurtry wrote the screenplay so I'm anxious to see it.

Larry McMurtry wrote the screenplay so I'm anxious to see it. I meant to respond to your previous post so thanks for the reminder. For those of you who don't know, this is the last book in the Woodrow Call/August McCrae Lonesome Dove series. I'm looking forward to it, but man Josh (Brolin, that is) would have been perfect as a young Woodrow. Instead we get Karl Urban. Oh well. Val Kilmer does not look ANYTHING like the way Inish Scull is described in the book. Seriously, McMurtry makes Scull sound like Danny DeVito, so it should be interesting to see Kilmer's portrayal. I know it won't be able to create the same magic as Lonesome Dove so I'm just hoping for "better than Dead Man's Walk," which was good, but not all I hoped.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of Comanche moon. I loved this book and I can't wait to finish up the movie series. I know it can't be exactly as phenomenal as Lonesome Dove, but I am very excited to see more with Maggie and Call.

I didn't see where anyone weighed in on this. I really enjoyed it. Zahn did a good job as Gus but Urban was too stiff and stoic...even for Woodrow Call.
Overall, though, I thought it was well done.

Zahn did a good job as Gus but Urban was too stiff and stoic...even for Woodrow Call. I have to wonder if Karl Urban is even capable of acting. It didn't seem like it to me. I agree he was very stiff. Nobody can pull off the part of Woodrow Call like Tommy Lee Jones! Plus, I really kept thinking that Urban looked more like a younger version of Robert Urich (Jake) from the original...so it kept messing with my head. Zahn did a great job as a young version of Gus. I can almost tell he must have done some intense studying of Robert Duvall's actions and inflections from Lonesome Dove, because he really did a great impersonation of him. I could not stand Val Kilmer. If I had to stare at him any longer half-naked with that beer belly I was going to scream. And to think he used to be Batman! I also think the make-up people didn't do a great job on him because he never got sunburnt even though he was only wearing the bottom half of longjohns for what was it 3 weeks in Mexico unprotected from the sun?! The only halfway decent job they did was when he was shaved and at least the top of his head and where his beard was was actually paler than the rest of his face. But shouldn't he have been burned with blisters on him? Also, did anyone else notice how Angelica Houston's character Clara shrunk down to Velma size (jinkies!)...I realize Clara could have physically grown - but that much? C'mon.

I agree that Zahn was good, but Karl Urban was terribly miscast. At times I thought he was trying to be a young Sling blade rather than a young Woodrow.
His attempts at being "stoic" just came off as bad acting.

I watched this on DVD, and I'm hating myself for missing it on TV. I do agree that the casting of Karl Urban was a horrible mistake. Anyone else would've been a lot better.
