All right, I know Australian Ann is a fan, but who else loves this show?
If you've never seen it then what lame excuse are you going to offer as a reason? It's on DVD, so go buy it or at least netflix it.
I dare say there's never been a better series about the plight of high schoolers. Great mix of drama and comedy combined with excellent writing and a spot-on cast equals me being baffled that all of you haven't seen it and aren't talking about it.

I loved this show (for the all too short time it was actually on). It contains one of my all-time favorite moments on TV:
A nerdy freshman gets up the guts to ask a cheerleader to the school dance. She, defying all cheerleader conventions, says she already has a date, but that she'll save one dance for him. At the dance, he approaches her just as "Come Sail Away" by Styx begins. (for those that don't know, that song starts out slow). She agrees to dance, and there's this moment as he's walking with her out to the dance floor that just makes the whole show. He's grinning ear-to-ear, thinking he's about to slow-dance with the head cheerleader, and she doesn't look embarassed at all. (Basically, it was the exact opposite of my high school experience.) Anyway, just as they begin to dance, the tempo of the song switches to the fast part, and they end up just fast-dancing. It's a great moment.
Anyone who was even the least bit uncool in high school (which was basically everyone here except Johnny Betts) would like this show. Besides, it stars a young (but smokin' hot) Linda Cardellini. Does one need any other reason?

Does one need any other reason? Ah, good ol' Lindsay Weir. A pure example of "girl next door" appeal. And the ladies have James "Harry Osborn" Franco to drool over. Unless Bill Haverchuck is more your style, and I somewhat doubt that. The Parisian night suit episode is another favorite. I recommend listening to some of the DVD commentaries - Paul Feig explains that a lot of these stories are pulled straight out of his life. The Parisian night suit was modeled after one he actually wore in high school. "It's not a Parisian. It's a jumpsuit. My grandfather in Florida wears them all the time because he's too lazy to put on pants!"There's also a scene where Neil Schweiber (the school's token Jew) is talking with a black kid about the plights their respective minority groups face. Neil says, "I'm Jewish. That's no cakewalk either. Last year, I was elected school treasurer. I didn't even run!"That's just funny. I could reel off a ton of great quotes, but I don't want to ruin them for everybody. MST3K fans might be interested to know there are appearances by Joel Hodgson (who is both a Disco DJ and the retailer who sells Sam the Parisian night suit) and Trace Beaulieu (Crow T. Robot). I expect everybody to have the series watched within the next week.

Ah, see, that just doesn't work for me. It would have to be Mike and Tom Servo to catch my interest.
I was watching "I Love the 90s Redux" the other day on VH1, and they were talking about this show. If it were to ever come on one of the cable networks, I would probably watch it. It looks like a good show. So don't dispair JB - I am not against watching it...I am just against going out of my way to watch it! LOL:)

Never seen it... though I've heard it was good. One day perhaps I will check it out. I'm more likely to actively search out Arrested Development over a highschool show.
I've never been a big fan of the highschool genre shows.... (Aside from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the one w/ Claire Danes & Jared Ledo --- that show was quite good); Also... though not quite highschool, I absolutely loved DeGrassi Jr. High (the original one) when I was a kid.

But I'm gonna play hardball and REFUSE to watch Veronica Mars until you watch Freaks and Geeks. That's right; that's how I roll. It's been brough-it, and the gauntlet has been thrown down!

Well, since I have forbidden you to watch any of the V-mars that is currently available on tv until you are able to see the entire first season in order, I guess that's fair.
One of these days I'm going to actually join Netflicks - when I can talk Mr. C into paying for it.

hahaha I just mentioned that Parisian suit on another thread and I hadn't even read this one yet.
I like the episode with Bill and the peanut allergy. Ken and Kimmy were my favourite freaks and I loved all the geeks.
People really should check this out. It's not at all what you might think. It has humour, pathos and one of the best casts ever assembled.
It is nothing like My so-called life or any other high school show.
