No discussion of this film yet?! The marketing for it was amazing starting with the incredible teaser trailer before Transformers which was better than all of Transformers. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvNkGm8mxiM 1-18-08.

I'm all about the "Bad Robot", but seriously....
I have yet to see anything by way of a trailer that makes me the least interested in paying to see this in the theater.
maybe if I hear it's good.... but it just hasn't piqued my interest enough.

I must be slow because I still think this is a new Godzilla movie.
What is it about?

>.<. Then what is it about.
Also I was looking at IMDB and some people (really just one guy) thought that this was tasteless in light of September 11th.
Do you guys agree. I can see where he is coming from, but I do not feel very offended.

September 11 was 6 years ago. It's time for that guy to grow a sense of perspective. Personally, I wouldn't have thought it was tasteless on Sept. 12, but that is because I have the tiniest bit of logic in me (it's a freakin' movie for goodness sakes people). Movies like King Kong, The Day After Tomorrow, Planet of the Apes, etc. (going back to the beginning of time - or at least the beginning of movies) have shown New York being destroyed by one thing or another. It is just stupid to think it has anything to do with Sept. 11.
Anyway, this movie came about because JJ Abrams was watching one of the old Godzilla movies (I think it was Godzilla anyway) with his kid, or nephew, or something, and the kid mentioned how it must be for the people on the ground who are seeing the city destroyed in the distance, and hearing all the panic, but really have no idea what is going on. So JJ decided to make that movie. Thus, you get a Godzilla movie in which Godzilla is not shown.
Personally, I think it looks as boring as all the other Godzilla movies (or Peter Jackson's King Kong). I'm with TG - unless I hear rave reviews about this one (and maybe not even then), I don't think I'll be seeing it.

Haha, so I was right! It is a Godzilla movie. But wait, you are saying there is not a single shot of Godzilla the entire movie. I saw an extremely blurred snipet of the monster on some website but it looked like a frog monster.
I like your opinion MsCali, I think the guy was overeacting a bit and I should stay away from IMDB forums.

It's most definitely not Godzilla but was inspired by those movies. After all that "viral" marketing that went on this summer with this one I'm at the point where all I care about is seeing the monster now. I was worried that since it was written by JJ that he would hide it and we'd be lucky to get even a glimpse of it at the end. The director says that's definitely not the case and we will see whatever it is in full form. I absolutely love the old Godzilla/ man-in-suit movies and I thought the semi-recent flick "The Host" was very underrated. The only thing that's turned me off even a little to this movie is all the secrecy surrounding it. All the "fanboy" movie sites are going apeS*** over this one though and hopefully it'll live up to the hype. I gotta admit.. the marketing has been interesting and Slusho "cameo" in a Heros episode was pretty cool. semi spoilers - There are smaller monsters that come with the big one and rumor is... It comes from the ocean.

The movie actually was not written by JJ Abrams. The concept was his, and he produced it, but it was writen by a friend of the guy who owns the comic shop Mr. C frequents (his name is Drew Goddard according to IMDB).
Of course, this guy is also a writer on Lost, which I loathe, so it doesn't really give me anymore hope for this movie than when I thought JJ Abrams wrote it. Mr. C really wants to see it, but I think I will beg off on the grounds that it is too scary for me to handle (how I got out of I Am Legend). LOL.

You're right. All this JJ talk had me thinking he actually wrote it but thank god he didn't. I'm actually diggin the casting on his new Star Trek movie. I did some checking on the writer, I also completely LOATHE the Lost show but he also did a few Buffy and Angel episodes and I love Buffy, yes i said it, so maybe there's hope after all. Plus, giant monster destroying city.. that's almost as good as giant robots doing it (destroying the city that is). I'm soo there!

The guy I share a cubicle with at work's wife is in the new Star Trek movie. She plays a doctor or something.
I hate the Star Trek tv show, but I've enjoyed the last couple movies, so I'm pretty sure, at this point, that Mr. C won't have any trouble dragging me to that. LOL.

Yeah... the dude getting his panties all twisted because he somehow sees a 9/11 connection is ricoculous. I guess the campaign has not affected me like others. They have not piqued my interest. I'll be happy to see the movie if all of you wonderful moviemarks tell me it's totally Fabu, but until then.... I'll wait til' cable. smile. When I first saw a teaser trailer before Transformers, I thought... ... perhaps a Godzilla-type thing. I have only recently seen any other promo spots... I tend to be a bit behind when it comes to being "in the know", if you will. I only found out a few days ago that they were remaking American Gladiator... and now it's on t.v. already. Crazy. Even crazier... I think (I may have imagined it) I saw a promo spot for a new Knight Rider, too. What is the world coming too? I'll watch both of these over the latest installment of Rambo, though. Back to the Cloverfield thing.... I only knew JJ Abrahms was somehow attached because of the "Bad Robot" on the first trailer I saw. As far as a comic book geek writing the story... well that would actually make me feel better. I am a huge BtVS fan... but I'd be interested in knowing which episodes this guy wrote or contributed on. Please say it wasn't, "Beer, Bad" because that would be a very bad sign indeed. Anyway... I look forward to hearing what you all think of the movie. If I get free tix... I'll go see it in the theater. Must get back to studying for real now... peep ya'll later.

I'm not interested in this. Don't like Godzilla. Don't like King Kong.
Listen, it's not about the monsters (love monsters, okay? Big fan of Buffy 1-3 and Angel -- and I agree with TG, if JJ "helped" with Buffy 4-7 or some of the less good ep of Angel then he needs to get out of the movie industry because there are enough bad people in there as it is) or the destruction (which I'm all for, come on, blowing up crap is all in good fun in entertainment) it's just that the movies SUCK. The old ones and the new ones are just BADDDD. Campy, too long, lousy story, terrible acting the WHOLE spectrum of bad.
As for the guy complaining about September 11th, he's just an idiot. Granted, while that happened 6 years ago and we shouldn't forget it just like all the other tragedies in the history of our country and the world, this movie NOT like September 11. As far as I know, that had nothing to do with a destructive monster or the Statue of Liberty. Come on, over generalize much?

Wait a minute. Smile... I understand your point of view, but just let the record reflect that I *DO* enjoy all 7 seasons of BtVS (some were better than others, I'll give you that. smile.)
Anyway... I already had someone give a huge spoiler... but I just wanted to know if anyone thought it was good enough to warrant seeing in the theater.
Like I said, the marketing campaign didn't really lure me in... and the more trailers I saw, the less interested I was getting. Still... I am curious to see what the general consensus is.
