Oh no, I see a giant wave of angry Star Trek fans coming this way!!!!
I really do hope this does well and that would be cool but everything after TNG has been (I know it is a bit ironic) lame to me.

fortunately, this one sounds like it is a total do-over
the rumors are it mostly takes place prior or right at the start of TOS, so they have a chance to dump some baggage and make another run at it.
done right, it could be great.

Yes, I heard that it takes place while they are at the academy (Harry Potter in Space?).
Two questions.
Who is directing?
Who is playing Kirk, I heard rumors of Damon, but I think they are wrong.
And,yes I know this is a third, who is Spock?

I'm curious. I'm interested. But I am NOT holding my breath -- don't feel like dying.

And,yes I know this is a third, who is Spock? 1) J.J. Abrams of Lost and Alias fame is directing. 2) Kirk hasn't been chosen. 3) Zachary Quinto AKA Sylar from Heroes is playing Spock. And here's a bonus: Anton Yelchin is playing Checkov.

I'
I'm w/ you FM!
I'll wait till I see a preview, etc... before deciding/passing judgment.
That reminds me... anything else about the monster flick he's involved in?? I remember seeing the teaser trailer before Transformers for something that looked like it could be Godzilla or something. Who knows? It was vague. New York under attack? Some Big City, anyway. smile.
The only thing that really peaked my interest was the JJ Abrams connection.
That's all... I have to have a Tangent in there somewhere... or I wouldn't be doing my job now, would I??? smile.

I remember that teaser. We came home and looked it up after that. I don't think it has a name yet, but it's about some kind of horrific attack on the city (or something horrible that happens) as experienced by the people on the ground (through their home movies or something like that).
It was getting good buzz when I was looking into it. I think JJ Abrams is a much better film director than television (because he only has 2 hours to drive me insane with all his unanswered questions and tangental storylines instead of multiple seasons).

The working title is Cloverfield, and it's set to be released on 1/18/08. However, there still hasn't been much info revealed.

And Nimoy is going to be in it as the older Spock.

And to think a year ago the rumor was Tom Cruise was gonna be pike. Glad that didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, I like Cruise but I don't think he is for trek.
Oh and Winona Ryder will be playing Spock's mother.
