Maybe the key to understanding which films should embarass which person is more complicated than it appears. On one level, it would seem that all girls should be embarassed by enjoying Bloodsport, while all men should hang their heads in shame for admitting they cried during The Cutting Edge. (and they should, by the way...)
However, maybe it has more to do with liking movies that don't fit in with your public personae. If people perceive you as a delicate flower of femmininity, or as a smoldering volcano of virile manhood, then any films you enjoy that don't fit those stereotpyes will cause eyebrows to be raised. And if that's the case, with whom does the responsibility lie? Is it society's problem for laughing at you, or is it your problem for putting up some sort of false front?
I don't know--I'm just rambling as usual. But it could spark an interesting debate, yeah?

Nice choice of welcome back song, JB - "Never Say Goodbye" is one of my favorites on that album... I think a survey needs to be done to find out how many high school classes have played Never Say Goodbye at either graduation or a graduation party. My guess? Approximately 4 billion. Besides me? 'Cause I'm a fan o' both. Wow - I'm pretty cool for a girl! Woo hoo! Further proof of how much cooler this board is than the general population - TWO gals have admitted to liking BOTH of these essential Chris Farley movies. *wipes tear* Sorry, FM - I don't think I'd count The Wedding Singer or (especially) Spanglish as Adam Sandler movies... More like MAdam Sandler movies! ;D Get it? Madam? Girly? Ha ha. And Kindergarten Cop doesn't count as an Ah-nuld movie, does it??? Guys, help me out... I have to agree with NBJ on this one. Kindergarten Cop can't really be considered a true Ah-nuld movie just like The Pacifier can't be considered a true Vin Diesel movie. Target audience has to be taken into account.

MAdam Sandler? HA HA HA HA HA - would you add Punch Drunk Love to that list? The only list I'd add Punch Drunk Love to would be my Don't Waste Your Time list. Hey Adam, quit pining for that Oscar nomination and go back to making goofy noises and punching out Bob Barker. Thanks. As far as guilty pleasure goes I'd have to say anything with Hilary Duff. I know Cinderalla Story wasn't that great but I can't help but watch it... Ouch. That was very brave of you to admit, and you should be commended for your candor.

Sorry JB and NBJ, I was just having fun with Kindergarten Cop.
I'll respect your wishes, NBJ, and say say -- we missed you and we're glad you're back. Cute joke too.
Yeah, I agree with the two Sandler movies I like -- oh, The Longest Yard wasn't too bad -- that they aren't his norm. I won't even look in the direction of a DVD copy of The Waterboy or Little Nicky or Big Daddy. YUCK.
I agree with LH, I think it depends on who you are as a person about what you should be "ashamed" of watching and liking -- but I think women are allowed/accepted in liking pretty much everything while the acceptance if definately more limited when it comes to men.
I don't have typical girl taste in the fact that I hate sap (NO Romeo and Juliet for THIS girl), but I do like romances. I love action/violence movies (but they need to not be gory, nasty, yucky). And I like comedy, but not what is easily described as 12 year old boy humor.

You're missing out, FM...
I always thought it would be great to have recurring dinner parties with friends - the whole nine yards - gourmet food, china place settings, wine, candlelight. Very sophisticated.
Then, once dinner is over, it's into the living room to watch a mindlessly funny, "low-class" comedy. One time it's Tommy Boy, the next, it's Happy Gilmore... you get the picture.
Talk about balancing the universe!

I guess I'm not into extremes. I would HATE a dinner party and I's similarly HATE Happy Gilmore. But unto each their own.

Oh, JB, I think Pale Rider is a fantastic movie!
And once I actually watch any more of Eastwood's westerns, I will let you know if I like them too! It seems the only one that ever comes on TCM when I'm able to watch is Pale Rider though.
And I will also admit to liking Over The Top. And, like Nikkibluejeans, I think the Monty Python movies are great (seriously, has anyone watched the Lego Knights version of "Knights of the Round Table"? Funniest thing ever!). I loved Anchorman, Dodgeball & Talledega Nights - not exactly chick flicks.

Yay, Mrs. MsCali! Together, we shatter stereotypes! ;D
A couple of other movies not typically enjoyed by females: This is Spinal Tap and The Cable Guy. Both are thoroughly enjoyed my me.
By the way, I love how this thread has turned into a showcase for all of the cool girls... We got the guys to own up to liking some pretty sappy chick flicks - so we're looking even cooler now!

I've never seen either Spinal Tap or Cable Guy.
But I will admit that I absolutely HATED The Notebook. It was too sappy (and too depressing really) for me. But Mr. C like it about as much as JB did. Go figure.
Don't get me wrong - I like my share of girly movies. I will stop on TCM anytime any Fred & Ginger movie is on, or anytime My Fair Lady, Meet Me In St. Louis, Oklahoma, The King & I, or any other musicals are on.

I do enjoy a good old musical, like Singing in the Rain. That's probably one of my all time favorites. Or anything with Esther Williams; those just make me smile. But you have to jump genres to be a well rounded movie goer, don't you think? I fessed up to liking Hilary Duff but I think Tombstone is an awesome movie. Spinal Tap is hilarious. I haven't seen Cable Guy - that was during my turn and run from Jim Carey phase. Dodge Ball was great.
Here's a question - I've seen Paint Your Wagon, does that count as a Clint Eastwood movie?

Paint Your Wagon? I'll be they paint their wagon...with blood! -- Homer Simpson
Also,

Lisa: He's dreamy.

Here's a question - I've seen Paint Your Wagon, does that count as a Clint Eastwood movie? No. After watching that I had to quickly pull out my "Spaghetti Western trilogy" DVDs and let a different type of healing begin.
