I know I've mentioned this before, but I am very much looking forward to this movie. I saw a preview for it at "Vanity Fair" and I was so excited I cried. For more info and pictures and to view the trailer, check out this guy's website: homepage.mac.com/leonardo.ubeda/Phantom/PhantomMovie.htmAll the press reviews I've seen are positive, both movie fans and theater fans are anxious for the release in December. I don't care what I am doing the day it comes out but I am definitely clearing my calendar for it!

This is the movie I'm most looking forward to. I was so angry when I found out they were doing a test screening here in Denver and I couldn't see it. POTO is my favorite musical, it's about time they made it into a movie.
Here's hoping it doesn't bomb.

Hello Butterfly! Nice to have you here.
It should be good- new pictures and news are released all the time on the previously mentioned website. Today I listened to Emmy and Patrick sing "All I ask of You"- they had the whole song! He sounds very American, she scoops some of the lines(making it a more modern style and not so traditional opera), but they sound great together, and she has a lovely voice.

When you go to the regular site, the main part you mentioned above, they now have continuous running sound clips of "Phantom of the Opera", "Angel of Music", "Past the Point of No Return", "All I Ask of You", and I think maybe one more, but I can't remember. Lots of good pictures and stuff on there now. a few things are still "Coming Soon", but they look interesting.
I'm undecided on her voice as well. It sounds good, but is definitely not classical opera or musical theater style. More like Charlotte Church, lighter, airy-er; instead of the belting type voice. I think that style is better for the movie version though, better for attracting non- musical theater fans to the genre. As a voice student, I can definitely tell the more modern things she does with her voice- the scooping of phrases and smoothing out the vibrato at some points. Patrick Wilson's voice is not my favorite for some reason, but I haven't heard that much of him, just tiny sound clips. Emmy's voice seems more neutral, sometimes almost has a British accent, but Patricks is very American sounding. I'm anxious to see if they have any accent with their speaking voices.
Grrr!!! These movie people! Now the release date is "In select cities Dec. 22". No date for wide release, it may be as long as January. Thankfully, I'll be in chicago over christmas, and can most likely catch it there.

Gerard Butler played that young Scottish guy who got his ear cut off in Time Line. What was the character's name? Can't remember, but it started with an M.

His name was Andre Marek (I know this from reading the book, I've never seen the movie). From the looks of the trailer, it looks as though he's going to make a pretty good phantom. I myself would prefered Antonio Banderas, but of course that stupid ethnic issue had to get in the way!!

I'd prefer Ewan Macgregor just because I've seen Moulin Rouge and the man's got real skills as a singer.
What about Steve Martin? ::don't know why that just popped into my head right now::

I just got the Collector's Edition Double CD set, and I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. There's lots of stuff that's great, but there's just as much stuff thats just... ehh. Masquerade was fabulous, as is all the opera stuff like Hannibal and Don Juan. I'm thinking that the weird vocal stuff I'm hearing on the CD will make more sense in the context of the movie... I sure hope so, anyway. Gerard Butler does a lot of weird things and a lot of very nice things with the character and his voice, from what I can tell on the CD. I'm excited to see him on screen. I am one of the chosen few hundred cities that it will open in on Dec. 22... although JB just HAD to rub it in that he has passes to go on monday, the butthead.
