Plus, most critics get advanced screeners of shows, so they can vote on those.

Basically, I think they vote for the entire calendar year before the awards - so the second half of this season will be voted on next year.
That's why some shows can win awards after they've already been cancelled.

So did Keifer Sutherland get nominated for last season of 24 or the new one? I was pretty shocked that Cinderella Man and Russell Crowe did not get nominated. Especially when his last film, Master and Commander got nominations. I enjoyed it, but Cinderella Man was so much better. Narnia should have also gotten some nominations.

He was nominated because, as much as I hate the show, he just rocks...no matter what season it is.
Seriously, Jack Bauer is the only character that seems to use any logic or deductive reasoning on that show - it's the only reason I can even sit through it when Mr. C watches it. (Oh, and also because Tony Alemeda is hot).
I think he was nominated for last season - this season probably didn't even have any screeners ready for the critics when the nominations were made first of all, and second, they kept pretty tight wraps on the happenings of this season so far, so I doubt the critics had really seen much when they voted.

Cinderella Man made me a fan of Russell Crowe and PAUL GIAMATTI and Ron Howard. Russell should have had greater support (for his talent) going into the GGs, but he's alienated so many that its not surprising that support was lacking. Yes, it is political -- and guess what -- everything is -- and I'm just glad that Russ was humble enough to show up ... (I haven't cared for some of his anti-Hollywood commentary. And I say let other actors do ads in China for cigarettes if they want to!) But, Russ can act, there is no disputing that. (And he was phenomenal in the movie.) Ron Howard's directing/handling of CM -- is sheer poetry. I have never been so smitten with a movie as I have with CM. I think there is a rhythm ... (I could go into more detail here -- but I won't) ... to that movie that is nearly perfect. You know how when a great building is designed / built -- and people who know nothing about architecture "feel" the beauty of the work? -- Well, thats how I feel about CM -- I know nothing about directing or movie making -- but I know what I feel and it isn't about the Jimmy Braddock story -- its about how Howard thought through the movie -- I think it somehow "transcends" the ordinary! However, I think Paul will be nominated for Oscar's Best Supporting Actor -- and I REALLY think/hope he'll win!! In fact, I will be disappointed if Giamatti isn't nominated and if he does not win. When Giamatti said his spiel to McGill (in McGill's office) and McGill counters with "they oughtta put your mouth in the circus" -- that whole scene there, in my humble opinion, won Giamatti his Oscar. (From the hubris in his voice to the beads of persperation on his face -- I thought his performance (and Ron's direction) was pure/sheer genius). Thanks all -- for letting me relive it all again!!

OH, and I'm not a big Geena Davis fan either -- and haven't watched her TV show once -- but her comment -- "little girl wanting to be president" was hilarious!!!!
