Christmas may technically be over, but aren't we supposed to celebrate the Christmas spirit all year long? That's right.
So what are everybody's favorite Christmas movies? Do you have anything that is a tradition to watch every single year? Here are mine:
1) It's a Wonderful Life - Even if I start off not feeling like watching it, I get wrapped up in it after about five minutes.
2) A Charlie Brown Christmas - I still get choked up when Linus says, "And that's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." The rudimentary animation is part of its charm.
3) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Again, its rudimentary stop-motion animation is part of its charm.
4) I try to watch the Young Riders Christmas episode, but sometimes I can't find where I placed the videotape. Once Season 2 is on DVD this this will be a fixture.
Can you believe I've never seen Miracle on 34th Street? If I have then I was too young to remember it.
My mom loves the original A Christmas Carol (from the '30s, I think), and Christmas Vaction is one of my sister's favorites.
What else should I consider adding to my list?

JB – I’ve never seen Miracle on 34th Street, either... and it took me way too long to see It’s a Wonderful Life. I’ve only been watching it (and loving it) for a few years now...
Okay, I almost hate to mention it, because it’s turned into something so mainstream, but A Christmas Story has been one of my favorites for many years. I remember enjoying it when it was still relatively obscure… (Ah, those were the days…) I admit that it’s gotten out of hand in recent years… but The Old Man still gets me chuckling.
A couple of traditional flicks:
White Christmas - Just wholesome fun, with those Old Hollywood nuances. My sister and I still sing the "Sisters" song - mostly in a sarcastic tone when we do something irritatingly similar... But how can you not love Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and...uh... that other chick... ?
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (The cartoon from 1966, not the Jim Carrey travesty!) - Short and sweet. The song "You’re a Mean One" is worth it in itself... as is the narration (brilliantly performed by Boris Karloff) that includes the different Who trinkets. I still call Christmas meat "Roast Beast". And Max the dog is beyond cute. It's clever, and way ahead of its time... way to go, Dr. Seuss!
And here's a non-traditional one: The Ref. I like its edgy-ness. The acting is solid - and there are some really funny moments... I think everyone can relate to at least one family member in that crazy crew.
That's my two cents. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone! ;D

I have several "must see" movies and shows that I watch every year without fail. In no particular order, they are:
A Charlie Brown Christmas. While I also love Linus' explanation on stage of the real meaning of Christmas, I personally love Vince Guauraldi's music. His jazz version of "O Christmas Tree" is the best. And, let's not forget the groovy dancing either.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Every year my wife and I go to Idaho to visit her family for Christmas, and watching that movie prepares us for five days with them. Seriously. "Hallelujah! Holy *beep*! Where's the Tylenol?"
A Christmas Story. "Fa ra ra ra raaaa ra ra ra ra." Nuff said.
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. I will watch anything by Rankin/Bass productions, even though they usually scared the tar out of me as a kid. Ever see the banshee in The Leprechaun's Christmas Gold? Eon the Terrible in Rudolph's Shiny New Year? The Winter Warlock in Santa Claus is Comin' to Town? *shudder*. Besides, everyone knows that Hermie the Elf grew up to be David Spade and not a dentist.
And this year my Christmas was made complete with The Office and A Benihana Christmas. I have a major crush on Pam. (Plus, it doesn't hurt that she looks a lot like my wife, so maybe that explains it.)

A Charlie Brown Christmas ... And, let's not forget the groovy dancing either. Classic. I'm pretty sure Linus invented the running man dance. And this year my Christmas was made complete with The Office and A Benihana Christmas. I have a major crush on Pam. (Plus, it doesn't hurt that she looks a lot like my wife, so maybe that explains it.) Or at least that's how you explain it to your wife, eh Laslo? I saw that episode three times in a two week span. Last year's Christmas episode is also a must-see. Michael's reaction to Phyllis' homemade oven mits that he gets during "Yankee Swap" always cracks me up.

I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, and Scrooge. I HATE A Christmas Story -- such a loser, dumb film in my opinion. But you guys are welcome to love it. Every now and then I'll watch Scrooged -- dumb film but occasionally funny.

Aw, this makes me sad Christmas is already over. ._. LOL But it also makes me think of how there didn't seem to be hardly any good Christmas movies on this year. What was up with that? They advertised Christmas like months ahead of time, and then don't even put on any good movies! It was irritating. But anyway, to my favorite Christmas movies, I always have to watch A Christmas Story. I can watch it over and over (which I do), and I never get tired of it. I also like to watch Prancer, if I can catch it on. I watched that when I was little, so it brings back those nice childhood memories. LMAO And I've recently added Elf to the list. It's another one I can watch over and over.

okay... so I'm truly making it Christmas in July .... so I'm procrastinating studying for part one of my three part Final Exam. I have to score an 85% or better or I have to repeat the entire semester over. I will not be happy w/ anything under 95%, personally. You have all named many of the classics.... I would like to second The Ref and it can be found in the $5.50 rack at your local Target pretty much all the time. It's funny. Tangent: And because I'm hungry and my stomach is growling, I'd like to also nominate some other "holiday" movies: Home for the Holidays is quite funny and though I'm not so much a Katie Holmes fan, I quite liked her in Pieces of April. (Oh, that made me think of a possible new thread topic.... hmmmm.... ) Oh... How about Planes, Trains, and Automobiles??? Nope... that's Thanksgiving, too. Tangent: My stomach is growling... that might explain my Thanksgiving mode. Dutch wasn't bad, either.... for a watch on t.v. movie, anyway. I have personally always loved A Christmas Story. I can't seem to add to everyone's already brilliant lists. Including leaving off The Grinch (Jim Carrey). And since A Nightmare before Christmas probably doesn't count as an X-Mas movie. I'll be hanging up my stocking cap. (or trading it in for a night cap --- That'll help me study.)

Whoot! TG, I'm glad you resurrected this thread, as I missed it the first time around!
A Charlie Brown Christmas isn't a required viewing in my house, but the CD is required listening (complete with performing the dance scene when that song comes on. And since it's played in almost every store at some point during the Christmas season, public performances of the dance is required as well).
I mainly love old Christmas movies: The Bishop's Wife, It's a Wonderful Life, Holiday Inn, Little Women (not technically a Christmas movie, but still great to watch that time of year), The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I didn't mind Jim Carrey's version, though it's not one I ever need to see again. I don't really have to watch all the animated specials, but I do like some of them: Mickey's Christmas Carol, Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer, Frosty the Snowman.
As a kid, I loved Babe's in Toyland, but I haven't seen it years.
A modern classic I love is Love Actually.
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate both A Christmas Story and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Hate. And did I mention Hate?
I have never seen Miracle on 34th Street - but it really doesn't interest me.
And since we are naming movies we love from other holidays now:
I love Easter Parade. LOL:)

(you get the idea).

Original Die Hard is great. As someone said above, Bad Santa is side-splitting. I'll be popping that into my DVD player soon.

Offbeat movies top my list. Black X-Mas, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Tales from the Crypt's Christmas episode, Die Hard, Santa's Slay. I just think they're awesome.
