Mmm, I thought Equilibrium was a great movie. The plot is nothing new (futuristic utopia), though. Reminds me quite a bit of Brave New World but has some great action. The only gripe I really have with it is that there isn't enough action sequences (this coming from a guy who thinks that more action can make any movie better ) Starring Christian Bale and Emily Watson is in it, too.

This is one of those movies that is constantly on my "must see" list and I always forget about it. I've heard a lot of good stuff. Are the comparisons to The Matrix accurate?
Speaking of Christian Bale, I'm very interested in seeing his portrayal of Batman.

Speaking of Christian Bale, I'm very interested to see his portrayal of Batman - and hoping he has his shirt off quite a bit in that movie?
Yeah, I really liked Reign of Fire for that reason alone!
Equilibrium is one of those movies that I was interested in seeing when I first saw the previews, but then forgot about...I think I'll have to rent it soon!

Speaking of Christian Bale, I'm very interested in seeing his portrayal of Batman. A lot of people compare it to the Matrix All I can say is that it shares the same sorta utopian theme that the Matrix was and that there are people. Who wear black. And fight with guns. But if Cleric Preston (Bale's character) fought with Neo and Neo didn't have his 'revival after death while in the Matrix' thing, Preston would so totally kick Neo's ass.

There are a couple of similarities between the Matrix and Equilibrium indeed... the fighting against a higher power, the extra-ordinary fighting style and the atmosphere in the movie are the things that come to mind. Matrix (1) is a bit better in the sense that the movie 'wowed!' me more when I first saw it in theaters. Equilibrium has a plot that's a bit more intruiging to me. Best part of the movie has got to be the ending... starting with the quote from Preston : "No... not without incident"

I watched Equilibrium this past weekend. I would have to say I was dissapointed after hearing a lot of people say it was better than the Matrix.
As far as comparisons go, the story has some similarities. Mankind is missing out on the "real world" because they take a drug that surpresses emotions. Christian Bale stops taking his medicine and then vows to free everyone from it. Basically they are similar in the same way that Man on Fire and The Punisher are similar.
The style of the movie is where you can really see Matrix influences. Christian Bale's character looks like Neo, talks like Neo and the fight scenes are what The Matrix would have looked like without the cables and specials effects.
I liked the idea that the movie was trying to get across I just think it could have been done better. I know that it only had a $20 million budget, but so did Underworld and I enjoyed that a lot more.

I never thought it should be compared to the Marix. And if there is a way it is only beause writer and director Kurt Wimmer created a style of martial arts in his backyard which is influebced by movies like the matrix

I just enjoyed when Preston shot up the place. Did anyone else think that the boy was creepy as heck? And I just can't stand Taye Diggs, everytime he came on screen, I just wanted to scream. It was no Matrix, but I thought it was alright.

I loved Equilibrium. Hey Johnny, see it yet? I liked The Matrix, but I loved Equilibrium. It just appealed to me more. I don't really think they should be compared to each other, but people always seem to do that. Thanks, ntm7885, that was cool!

I loved Equilibrium. Hey Johnny, see it yet? Yep, I have indeed. I enjoyed it. Personally, I think I liked it more than The Matrix. Obviously, Christian Bale is a better actor than Keanu, plus, I've always thought The Matrix was a little overrated.

Strange actually that it is being compared with tha Matrix. It's the first thing that popped into my head aswell when I saw Equillibrium. In fact I don't think it has that many simularities at all. Yes, it's a future movie, and it has some original camera work, but that's all the comparisons I see.
Anyway, I thought Equilibrium was an awesome flick. Better than the Matrix, which probably has a lot to do with the fact I like Chrstian Bale a whole lot more than Keanu Reeves.

Lol, i just stumbled across this place quite freakily as Equilibrium is by far one of my favourite movies, along with donnie darko and pulp fiction which are also both mentioned in other threads. Equilibrium is pretty much unique id say just as Matrix is unique bt in a completely different way. Matrix pales in comparison to Equilibrium though, once uv seen one slow motion invincible fight in the matrix, uv seen one too many. The action in equilibrium is like nothing uv ever seen n it makes u wonder how they even managed to film some of them lol. Keanu Reeves acts like he's acting, whereas Bale just looks great all the way through. N the thing i love about equilibrium, no matter how many times u watch it, it doesnt get boring, it's not an action crammed film with a crap plot like i dunno...say the die hard series lol, u dont get sick of watching the quite 'beautiful' fight scenes:P.
